I always think its bad when the coach doesn't. What are others thoughts? Even if he brought on the next coach in an advisory role (not really sure how that would work-probably too much conflict).

The fact that our team is going to be coached by its head coach and our opponent will be coached by an interim is an advantage to us. And I don't like it. I never have. I think it's horribly selfish of the coach to abandon his team for a new program while the team is preparing for a big game as a reward for a good season. I believe the NCAA should make a new rule that no school can contact a head coach of another school until that school's season is over, including the bowl game. In doing so, I also believe national signing day should be pushed back a month to make up for this extra time. I don't think this is too difficult of a change to implement and would mean coaches would remain with their teams for the entirety of the season to fulfil their obligations to their players. Does this sound reasonable?

I saw where he plans on brining most of his assistants as well. Even if they coach SJSU for the bowl game ultimately their minds will be elsewhere.

Advantage US; but we aren't out of the woods yet until Temple hires Chuck Heater.

Clawson is not on the short list for Temple, per Football Scoop. They are usually dead on. I think we are safe for now.

As someone who was in Fresno when Denny Stolz dropped the bomb, I don't like this. As MarkL points out, it's really unfair to the kids.

Boy we looked prepared for that game! Not! Major smack down and a sad way to end a great season. I'll never forget that as well. Was that 1985?

I agree with MarkL. Coaches leaving before a bowl game is a smack in the face to the fans, program, and ultimately the players which he leaves. It shouldn't be allowed, but there's no way it will ever be disallowed by the NCAA. The only thing I could see as a possible deterrent is a clause in a coach's contract stating if he makes a bowl game, he must coach the bowl game or pay a fine or something of the like.

All the NCAA has to do to change the situation is change the contact days and signing date, either earlier or later. They could also go to an "early" and "late" signing period like other sports have.

I would be ok with a fine as long as the fine went to the school he was leaving. For example, Tennessee would have had to pay Butch Jones' buy out and then a fine of $500,000 all to UC.

I guess I'm in the minority. If a coach takes another job I wouldn't want him hanging around the program and game planning, while he was trying to recruit, buy a house, and do a hundred other things for another school. Just make a clean break and get on with it.

I agree with falcon137...once a guy takes another job, he's gotta go. Unfortunately, with the timing of the Bowl season, I'm not sure how you can keep coaches from taking jobs during bowl prep. The problem I had with Stoltz was the way he completely blew off Bowl prep to hunt for a better gig out west. That was completely irresponsible on his part.
