Sad to see him go, but it's definitely for a good reason.

Man......what a blow that would be......I agree that I can certainly understand his situation, but as a Falcon, what a severe blow that would be. He is on the verge of being the MAC's top back with two years remaining and now possibly this. Damn, damn, damn. If Samuel is indeed gone, our backfield just went from stockpiled with backs to wide open with the graduation of Pettigrew and who knows where Martin will be with that knee injury. Givens looked good in spot duty but Samuel leaving would be a major blow. I hope he gets things sorted out and comes back. Just goes to show why taking care of business when it's in front of you always outweighs "there's always next year" because you never know what next year may bring.

What a terrible way to start our offseason. Makes that bowl loss sting ever more. On top of Samuel likely gone, Je'Ron Stokes will also not be back, nor will DB's Mark Mays and Austin Collier as well as K Matt Oczypok.

That's not good at all. I hope life works out to the point where he can return for next fall. Stokes had a negligible impact this season, but it would have been nice to have him coming back also.
That's our off season quota for bad news. No more.

My hat is off to Anton and if he might read this, young man..........you made the right, honorable decision!! For me personally, my faith comes first, my family comes second, and whatever else comes down the road......next. Seems to me & hoping, the same holds true for him. Godspeed young man and the falcon in me hopes you are able to return, however if not, God's blessings in all you do.

Congrats to all the guys who have finished their degrees! The top goal for Falcon Football is to graduate, so leaving the team early with a degree in hand is a great finish to an academic career.
I with Anthon all the best. If he decides staying in Florida with his family is the right route, I'm sure everybody understands, and he will always be a Falcon. And I hope, whatever he does, he decides to finish his degree.

Football is probably the best route to a great life for his family. I hope he finds his way back to the football field and on to an NFL roster for a few years. Outside of gmartin, in a couple years of the NFL you can make more than many of us make in ten years of work.

All the best to Anthon Samuel.....a lot of young men in his position run away from the responsibility of being a parent. Glad to see that he seems to be following a better path.
Congrats to Stokes, Collier, Mays and Oczypok. Getting a degree is tough enough, to do so on time while dealing with the demands of being an athlete is quite an accomplishment

I can certainly understand his decision, family always comes first and I imagine the incident with his father has a lot to do with this. Wish him all the best, I don't expect he'll come back to BG anytime soon.

Does anyone know exactly what the injury was to Martin's knee? I assume it was an ACL. Does anyone know how it's coming along?

Big time loss for BG.. I wouldn't be surprised to see him playing for Florida international or even univ of Miami down the road .. If he wants to be close to home I'm sure some of those schools will come calling after the year he had

This is what I was referring to last week in the other thread about Givens being the #1 back going into sprig ball. If he ends up playing it will be at FIU.
BEST OF LUCK TO THE YOUNG MAN.

Man, I wish #6 all the best with his decision. It would be a big blow to not have Anthon in the backfield but I totally understand his decision. He's a great kid and obviously loves his family very much.

I had a couple kinda rough years after BGSU and something I've come to learn is true is the importance of my priorities. If my number one priority is not my faith in God, followed closely by keeping my relationships with my family and closest of friends strong, nothing else in life works. Anthon has my 100% full support of keeping his family as a priority above football. Good and mature choice by this Falcon.
