ESPNinsider just did an interesting thing about the top 150 recruits of 2009 and where they are now. Thought I would take a look. I assumed that it would be interesting to see where guys transferred and if they had success but I didn't find that many guys transferred.

1. Ali Alaboody
a. I’m not sure he ever made it here. I see a profile for him at Wayne State
b. Other searches show that he may have cheated on his SATs

2. Alex Bayer
a. Sr in 2013. Per BGSUs website: Has started 25 straight games ... has 78 catches, the most of any BGSU pass catcher ... also leads the team in career receiving yards (950) and touchdowns (6).

3. Kyle Bryant
a. Per falconblog: Was dismissed in May of 2012 for an undisclosed violation of team rules. Bryant had game experience, with 6 starts and 8 games played in two seasons.

4. Jarius Campbell
a. Senior in 2013. Injured in 2012 but should start or play a major role in 2013. 49 career tackles.

5. Austin Collier
a. Will be a senior and graduate with one year of elgibility left. Has not done much so far. 9 career tackles

6. Aunre Davis
a. Not listed on the 2012 roster and I don’t remember why. He had played in 6 career games.

7. Dylan Farrington
a. From falconblog…left after 2010…DE Dylan Farrington (played in 5 games, had 3 tackles and a hurry)

8. Erique Geiger
a. Not sure when he left but wasn’t real productive prior.

9. Vince German
a. Transferred to ODU in 2009.

10. Ronnie Goble
a. Senior in 2013. Team captain in 2012, 32 career tackles, 1 sack.

11. Jordan Hopgood
a. Senior in 2013. 454 career rushing yards, 10tds.

12. Chris Jones
a. Graduating, 2012 MAC Defensive player of the year, 12.5 sacks 19tackles for loss in 2012.

13. Eric Jordan
a. Looks to have left in 2011

14. Mark Mays
a. On the team, will graduate as an academic senior. No stats of note.

15. Tim Moore
a. Graduating senior. 21 career tackles.

16. Ted Ouellet
a. Will be Senior. 10 starts in 2012, 56 career tackles

17. John Pettigrew
a. Graduating senior. 2012 562 rushing yards, 6 tds.

18. Jordon Roussos
a. Graduating senior. Started at RT 32 consecutive games.

19. Matthew Schilz
a. Senior in 2013. Per BGSU website. Is third in BGSU history with 7,832 yards passing and fifth in touchdown passes with 50 ... has completed 702-of-1,202 (58.4%) total passes ... averages 223.8 yards passing per game and has started 35 games (32 consecutive).

20. Paul Swan
a. Senior in 2013. 24 career starts, 156 tackles, 10.5 for loss. 2sacks.

21. Alex Thomas
a. Looks like he redshirted a year then transferred.

22. Dwayne Woods
a. Graduating Senior. Per BGSU Has played in 49 games, making 36 starts ... has 337 career tackles, most on the team ... added 28.5 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks, five forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries and four interceptions.

Collier and Mays have both opted to graduate

Thanks. Looks like 14 of the 22 will graduate from BG. Is this Clawsons first technical class but it had pretty much been set up by Brandon?

Cam Truss was also in that class as a walk-on.

That was a really solid class for a first year coach. Jones verballed under Brandon, but IIRC that program up north went after him really hard after Campbell hired in there. We did lose a couple guys to them...TJ Fatinikun was thew on that actually hurt us. Patrick Nicely had verballed to us at QB, but he flew the coop when Clawson didn't send him flowers or something like that the minute he got the job. Nicely played at Akron for a few years and then xferred to Lake Erie College where he fininshed his career by throwing for a whopping 1000 yards last year.

Clawson wnt out and got Schilz to replace him...say what you will about Schilz, but he's a definite step up from Nicely....

Clawson didn't have much to do with Schilz. Ruggiero was OC at Kansas State and recruited Matt. He committed to KState and when Ruggiero was let loose, he called him and Matt followed him to BG.

2009 was a nice class but 2010 is turning out even better. I wish recruiting services would do this type of post college assessment. Of course, that might expose the how difficult it is to assess and project the quality of recruits.

Clawson's the HC...if he didn't want Schilz to be here, he wouldn't be here.

Of the guys listed it appears 12 have contributed in varying degrees to this football team. That means that 10 recruits had little or no impact. I think this demonstrates a few things about recruiting. First, is a fan should never get too caught up in the 2, 3 and 4-star recruits a team brings in each year. Many of them will never pan out and several will transfer to another school. Second, I doubt if a success rate of just over 50% like the 2009 class has been is that unusual. I imagine most schools from the SEC to the MAC have similar success rates. Third, many of the recruits who sign with BCS conference schools would be better served if they had gone to a MAC or equivalent level school. These kids too often get lost in the numbers and end up going somewhere else or ride the bench their entire career. Finally, recruiting is in many cases a crap shoot and many great players end up in the MAC, Mountain West, WAC and other non-BCS schools where they get the ooportunity to play and develop. Just look at the number of non-BCS players in the NFL. I notice that both starting QB's in the Super Bowl are from non-BCS conferences.

Obviously. Just pointing out that if Ruggiero didn't know him prior, he would not be here. Clawson did not go out and get him as you stated.

I think you're splitting hairs here...the whole Schilz/Ruggiero relationship has been discussed ad nauseum around here. I don't think you can ever say a HC "had little" to do with a player signing an LOI to play for him.

Re the contributions the class 0f 2009 made...the guys who graduated w/o ever playing much did contribute in a very important way. They helped get our APR back where it needed to be to avoid being docked scholarships by the NCAA
