Re: New football hire
Here's the exact quote re Clawson's contract....
Bowling Green: Head coach Dave Clawson will be paid a base salary of $400,000 next season. His new contract extension, which was announced in late January and goes through June of 2019, includes a clause that ensures that the salaries for him and his assistants won't fall below the bottom half of the league. If Clawson leaves BGSU in the next three seasons, the buyout will amount to $200,000, dropping to $150,000 in 2017, and $100,000 in the final two years of the contract.
The part in bold should ensure quality assistants...relative to the rest of the league, I guess.

It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
Re: New football hire
Few quick thoughts ...
1. Great hire as director of recruiting. Austin Thomas learned from Ed Oregeron how to recruit. Oregeron is a terrible head coach but one of the nation's best recruiters.
2. It drove me up a wall for years how low Brandon and Clawson were paid compared with the rest of the conference. Even worse was the assistants' salaries. Glad that's getting resolved.
3. Clawson pretty clearly negotiated the falling buyout. If he has another good year next year we may be saying goodbye to him, and if / when he leaves for a bigger program he will have deserved it. That being said I love having Clawson around and as long as he wants to be the BG head coach, I want him to be the BG head coach.

This tells me 1 thing. The university is making a STRONG commitment to the program.
This along with Perry Field House renovations and Doyt renovations sends a clear message. Love it.
