I'm so proud of the BGSU cheerleaders this year. I'm not sure if all the football followers know all the wonderful things about your cheerleaders. They are champions. Yes, world champions to be exact and will have the rings to prove it once they come in. This year at the UCA College Cheerleading Nationals BGSU Cheerleaders came in second place (just .07 away from 1st). The top five teams got to compete at the World Cheerleading Championships. BG PLACED 1ST!!! World champions!

The cheerleaders you see on the sidelines do so much more than what you see. They not only cheer for 4 or more sports, they also "storm the dorms" to drum up support to get students to the games. They visit area elementary schools to get BGSU spirit in the community. They visit Fireland's campus to help drum up branch support. They participate in numerous outreach programs (hospitals, feeding the poor, read books to children etc.) all to help their community and spread BG spirit. They host cheer clinics to keep the next generation excited and interested about cheerleading.

Their sport runs year round. Summer is filled with learning the material, workouts, tumbling and stunting classes, camps and retreats. Fall has Welcome back, football, homecoming and volleyball. Winter is men & women's basketball, hockey and Cheerleading Nationals Competition. Spring is tournaments and STUNT (the new NCAA Emerging sport of cheerleading). All combined practice, workouts, study tables and special events. They too miss most every holiday including spring break as a sacrifice for their sport.

These men and women are student athletes you can be very proud of. They represent your men and our University very well.

Here's a link to their end of the year video: http://youtu.be/gbp-m1ekN5E

(If you don't want to watch 6 minutes of cheerleaders please forward to the 4:30 mark and at least watch the highlight of their 2nd place national win and their 1st place world win.)

This is cool. I cheered for BGSU 10 years ago, and I can say that the program now is better than ever. Only recently has the team become competitive which makes their achievements even more astounding in my opinion. The current coach is a personal friend and former BGSU cheerleader herself. Without getting too long-winded; Way to go BGSU cheer!

What a remarkable accomplishment! As my daughter shows the clip to all her school friends its rather cool knowing it isn't some brand name that you see on t-shirts around here, but BGSU. I hope this made front page somewhere out there in North West Ohio!

More to brag about!...

When you take the best of the best cheerleaders from all the squads all across America you get TEAM USA. Yes, the best of the best. How many are from University of Kentucky? One. How many are from University of Cincinnati? Zero. How many are from Ohio State? Zero. How many are from Bowling Green State University? FIVE!!! I'm so proud of Michelle Lynn Bowles, Bekah Pastor, Abbey Pilgrim, Megan Gill and David Clemons. Congrats!

Awesome. Congrats! I was speaking with a cheerleader from another university this past weekend, she was telling me how good BG was this year. Great to have these people represent BGSU.

The cheer and stunt squads are killing it...volleyball takes the MAC and makes the NCAA's..women's BB goes into the final 16 of the WNIT...Brooke Pleger is 2nd nationally in the hammer throw...football went to a bowl game...this has been a great year for BG athletics

Who's that carrying the American flag during the opening ceremony parade of nations at the ICU Cheerleading World Championship? Why it's BGSU's very own David Clemons! And that beautiful blonde to his side leading our country is BGSU's very talented co-ed cheerleader Abbey Pilgram!

Don't forget Rugby....8-0 in the MAC last fall and some easy wins over two little sisters of the poor Ohio St(55-12) and Mich St(64-12) this Spring. Not sure who else they played this Spring(Maybe MAryland and West Va). Playoffs begin this weekend I think.

Interesting that our most successful sports are not varsity sports. Cheer/Stunt and Rugby.
