Three had BG winning the East and the other had BG third behind Ohio and BUFFALO. That was Lindy's...

Of course the only mag that matters, Phil Steele's, comes out Tuesday!! Booya.

75 days to go....GO BG!

Picked up Steele's today...he has BG winning the east. Apparently, five of the nine simulations he runs have us finishing with double digit wins

Mike,
With the experience we have coming back we Should expect to do more than ok by winning the East. This is a year our target should be the MAC!

Anything less than a MAC championship will be a bit disappointing. The Seniors need to play like they want it. 20 plus years is too long.

No kidding...MAC title should be the target every year. You have to win the East to get a shot at the MAC. We have way too much experience coming back to settle for anything less than the MAC title.

As Schilz goes so does our season. You hate to oversimplfy it that way but is it untrue?

Last season proved the program was officially back on sound footing and the roster sufficiently restocked. There's still the unfinished business of beating Toledo, winning the East, winning the MAC and winning a bowl game. All are achievable and would be nice but I'd gladly take three out of four.

I'd add a couple other items besides Schilz. Tailbacks. We know how good our backs can be and we have a lot of depth. We did see Givens get injured for the second half of the season after a really dirty hit by an EMU defender, so we haven't seen how he would be for an entire season. (That defender should have been ejected BTW). D line. Jones was incredible for us last year and replacing him will be easier said than done. We also could have some depth issues there. I wouldn't worry too much there though because both our LBs and secondary should be best in the conference.

We're definitely deep in the positions that graduated talent.

Any word on Samuel's status? There's not too many programs that can lose a player of his caliber and replace it with the talent/skill/experience within our stable of RB's.

Losing Samuel will hurt but hoping Fred Coppet steps right up.

The EMU hit on Givens although viscious .... WAS NOT DIRTY!!! this is football guys and bad physical hits are going to happen. I have seen the hit several times and I can tell you there was no dirty nature to it.

Wasn't that the play where Givens was stood up by a couple or more tacklers and the EMU player ran up from behind and lowered his helmet right into his back. Leading with your helmet like that normally gets you a 15 yd penalty these days

Yeah that would be the one. Targeting with the head against a defenseless player. He was already stacked up and had no opportunity to move. The EMU guy had plenty of time to avoid the hit with the head but did not. As a precaution they walked Givens off on a stretcher since the hit was directly on an unpadded part of his back. Joe Paterno said once when he played they used leather helmets and he'd like to see something more like that in order to get players to quit using their helmets as hitting devices. While not realistic, he had a good point there.

But isn't the penalty for helmet-to-helmet contact? Just because the player is stopped doesn't mean you don't hit him. How many times have you seen somebody stacked up in a pile that manages to squirt out of the pile and score a touchdown? If somebody else just got into the pile and cleaned up the play, the touchdown would not have happened.

IIRC the hit was really late. Is that correct or is my memory failing me on this?
