RB Anthon Samuel announced today, via his personal Instagram account, that he will be transferring to Florida International University this fall instead of returning for his junior season at BG. Samuel did not return to BG following the Falcons' 2012 Military Bowl appearance in December.

This really sucks, but I think most of us expected that he wasn't coming back. I wish him well but it's time to move on.

Samuel is a very talented young man who is putting family first...can never fault a guy for doing that. I'm glad he was a Falcon for a couple years. Gonna keep tabs on him down at FIU...and it does suck for us.

Givens, Hopgood, Martin, Greene...and 4 stud backs from Fla in the incoming Frosh class. Looks like it's wide open.

Good luck to him. Samuel was the best and most consistent player for BG the past 2 years on offense. It's going to be tough to replace his production. That said, I'm excited to see the other guys. Greene looked like a Samuel clone in the spring game and we've seen flashes of the talent Givens has. Also have to think a guy like Coppet decided to come here based on being given a chance to start right away.

I think we all saw this coming. The guy wants to stay closer to his family, very admirable.

I'm excited to see what these other RBs can do. We have loaded with talent there.

Was bringing the family here ever discussed as an option?

With 4-5 equally talented backs itching for playing time and his history of injuries this might actually turn out to be a net positive for the program, incredible as it sounds.

Something we probably won't know, but I would say if it was discussed, it would have been brief. Uprooting the family to come to NW Ohio for two years would be kind of foolish, IMO. I guess it would really depend on what Samuel was planning on doing after graduating.

All the best, Anthon. And similarly all the best to Givens and Martin and Hopgood and all of the first year backs.

Too bad but I figured he would end up at a Florida mid major. Good luck Anton.

I just hope we don't play FIU in '14 or '15.

Good for him for going back to his family. But can't completely praise the guy. He knew of his responsibilities when he came to school, and now he's leaving his team.

Still, good luck to him.

Yes, all that money he's making as a "student-athlete" at BG should support a family well here in Northeast Ohio. How's that an option? Seriously?

BG isn't exactly NYC in terms of cost of living. A job from the wife might be able to sustain things. I'm not saying it should have been done or is necessarily feasible, just if it came up in the discussion.

Placing family first is admirable, but I concur with the previous poster. Let's not canonize the guy, particularly when statements like "I'm taking my talents to FIU" (a la Lebron James) are made.

My point is the BGSU isn't in the business of setting up housing for familes and finding them jobs so the son/husband/signifigant other can play football. Nor should we be.

I don't blame him for moving back home if that is where his priorities are. Good for him for making an important decision.

Of course. I wouldn't be either. As adults, they'd have to take care of the logistics themselves. (The scholarship covers room and board in addition to tuition so that would help as well.)

My admiration is primarily reserved for the 100+ scholarship players and walk-ons presently on the roster who've made their own personal sacrifices and are ready to lay it on the line for Falcon football in 2013.
