Will Matt Johnson beat out Matt Schilz?

Continuing the trend from spring ball, rumor has it that Matt Johnson and Matt Schilz are getting equal reps with the 1's in camp.
It has become clear to me that Clawson may be getting fed up with Schilz. I think that Schilz starts the season but won't be surprised to see Johnson if the offense sputters.
Thoughts?

There is no loyalty factor here nor should last year be held against anyone. The best QB regardless of class or experience should be the starter. Only the coaches can determine this and based on splitting the reps with the first team it appears they are doing just that. Whether this is motivation or competition this should bring the cream to the top.

I think we'll know the answer in the next 10-14 days. If this doesn't push Schilz to be a better QB then I'm fine with Johnson getting a chance.

I don't see anyway that Clawson makes a change at Qb this season unless bg is eliminated from the east race. 3 year starter at qb on a team poised to compete for a Mac title. Not gonna happen and if it does it will be mid season if at all .

Nothing motivates anyone better than competition. Both will improve greatly with this. That being said I believe Matt Johnson can overtake Schilz but I don't think it will happen.

I could only wish it would be that easy, but as the others have said you can't pull a 3-year starter with this team and what is at stake for the shake of making a change. Schilz personally blew several games last year and if the same continues early this season, Clawson will have to make choice.

It could get ugly fast if it's handled the wrong way.
It's similar in a way to the Mark Sanchez/Geno Smith situation. My bet is that Schilz (like Sanchez) will get the benefit of the doubt and start. If he falters, in comes the ready replacement. If the replacement should falter that's when it could come unraveled. Stick with Johnson and take your lumps, return to the wounded veteran or start fresh again with Knapke?

Understandable that the "battle" is between the two most experienced QB's, but I'm a bit disappointed that Knapke's name doesn't seem to pop up at all...as a RS frosh, he should be making SOME kind of impression I'd hope.

I met Matt's mom at the Toledo game, she's an awesome woman and is very supportive of Matt. He comes from a good family and I hope he can succeed this year.

Wasn't Delk hurt fairly early in the season last year after putting himself in position to be a contributor? His return will help. I'm hoping another receiver (Coby, Hosley, Jackson) breaks from the pack and emerges as a playmaker.

I'm looking at Hosley for a big year. He had a great upper gear last year until he got injured. As long as the leg is back to 100%, I'd expect him to have a great year. Reminds me of Binky Cooper.
