Tootsie Rolls

For years upon years, a gentleman in my section has brought Tootsie Rolls to every home game and tossed them to the crowd when BG scored. This is a tradition at BG. A great tradition that the crowd looks forward to. At the Tulsa game, everyone waited in anticipation for flying Tootsie Rolls, but they never came. The gentleman said that it is too hard to get them into the stadium.

I would like to personally thank the BG athletic department for killing a long held "original" tradition by ordering the gatekeepers to not allow any outside food into the stadium. I am sure the concession sales have skyrocketed because of this policy. If the department is concerned about concession profits, maybe they should concentrate on the service portion to get more people through the line. They can start by having workers who can multitask.

If the athletic department would concentrate on preserving the few traditions that actually exist instead of whoring out every aspect of the game, i.e. first downs, perhaps more people wouldn't complain about the game day experience.

On the nose, there! Damn, I hate that advertisement in the the middle of "Bowling Green" and "First Down!". How could a sponser feel that was a cost effective means of advertising? Was adding this B.S. a deal breaker for sponsorship?

I know,... just shut up and take it. Rant over.

You're absolutely right and hopefully this is rectified before the next home game.

"Traditions" are not manufactured in a marketing office by someone in their mid-20's who's been here 8 months and then incessantly jammed down our throat. Sweet Caroline is sharp nails being run down a chalkboard, not a BG tradition. Roll Along becoming subordinate to the idiotic Penn State/Marshall ripoff WeAreBG should be an affront to the sensibilities of anyone who has ever worn the orange and brown.

The authentic traditions need to be preserved and restored while the ephemeral marketing gimicks need to end.

I submitted a question to the Falcon View for Mr. Kingston about this very issue. I feel like the gameday experience is severely lacking since changes were made in regards to the concessions and people at the gate searching through things. Not a happy camper about this one bit and I hope Kingston addresses it promptly with the staff who work the events.

The athletic department should allow say a club sport team to sell Tootsie Rolls inside of the stadium. It could generate some revenue, solve the "no outside food" issue, and further expose a long standing tradition to more fans.

I LOVE this idea! This makes perfect sense!

Precisely. I'm sure WMU fans are pleased at having decades of genuine tradition subverted so a self-promoting coach can turn their program into a dance club.

Precisely. Their new coach is a living, breathing marketing gimmick.

Fleck is a real excitable guy, can't blame him for trying, but seriously none of that stuff is going to stick. He looks like a goober doing that 3rd down thing and the row motion looks like a guy having a seizure.

Good! I think this is the perfect way to let Kingston know what is important to the long time fans. There is MUCH that needs to be "fixed" around here. And letting him know how we feel is the way to start the dialogue. I think he will be open to our concerns as long as they are presented in a professional manner. His "Falcon View" was set up to ask him questions, so I think more of us should take advantage of it. Let us know if you get a response from him!

Thank God we are not WMU this year (which is probably how long those new traditions last). You just can't make up new traditions. Traditions happen over time. Sweet Caroliine is probably the dumbest new tradition that has taken over the country. Why would any team want to mimic another team's tradition?
