Clawson offered by big school

I don't exactly remember what happened last offseason in terms of Clawson and interviewing but I thought he had interest somewhere. One of the commentators last week said he as offered by a big name school and said no. Anyone know what school?

I heard that too on the broadcast. My assumption was Temple. I read he interviewed at Wisconsin and while it is entirely possible he was offered and declined, my instinct is Alvarez hired the guy he wanted. I could also see it being Colorado or Purdue and if so, good call to turn both of those down. Purdue fired their previous coach for having a win loss record the past two years almost identical to the program all time record, and Colorado is just a mess and in over their heads in the Pac 12.

Yeah. I think if I was losing my best player on offense and defense and had a huge question mark at QB I would have gone to Colorado most likely, Purdue no question but not Temple. It seems like his risk is going to be well worth it. This team is rolling.

I'm a Purdue alum and I don't think I'd coach there if offered. Unrealistic expectations, not much good tradition, tough recruiting, etc.

I could be wrong on this, but I do recall mention that E.Carolina was after Dave, after they fired Holtz. Don't think he ever interviewed with them but again, I could be wrong on that part of it.

Either way, I don't consider E. Carolina a "Big time" school.

BG is a better option than Purdue? Because we have realistically low expectations, a better football tradition than Purdue and incredible recruiting.

I'll worry about this stuff when the time comes...at the rate we're going this year, Coach Claw is gonna get some offers.

No....but coming back to BG with a team that's loaded for another good to great season would likely lead to a better job than Purdue..

Purdue, much like Illinois or Kansas is a dead end school. You will have to compete against major powers to match often inflated expectations. Urban was smart to go to Kansas, just as Hoke was smart to go to San Diego St. Its better to go to a program who just lost a coach who was successful than to a program who fired a coach for being bad. Sometimes guys like Beckman may realize that this is his chance at a big payday. If Clawson is trying to reach the top of this sport, he will be smart and not go for a money grab. If he feels he will never be an upper echelon coach, take the money and run coach.

If he can lead us to a MAC Championship and bowl win, I would help him pack if he took a better paying job. I want him here, but if he leaves at some point, I hope it ONLY after that happens. Even when Urban left, we never won a MAC Championship. But I'm done talking about this now, we're only two games into the season. GO BG!

I was going to respond to you but Flipper and daspollak already nailed it. Purdue is not a good place to go. If he wants a big job, a better one, far better one, than Purdue will make itself known. If he wants to raise his kids in a great town, have a solid job, and enjoy all that a MAC team has to offer, I'd be glad to keep Clawson until he retires.

When did Urban go to Kansas?

Utah was a great job....focal point of a growing State...you compete with the Utah jazz for media coverage and that's it (unless you count those Mormon freaks at BYU :) ) , tons of resources and great facilities. They parlayed a couple years of success under Urbie ito a Pac 10 bid...

Not as potential at SDSU, but if i'm going to get trucked, I'd rather r do it in San Diego than West LaFayette

Maybe he should of gone somewhere else......this is a complete embarrassment today. All the hype and then we go in and get absolutely waxed by a horrible Indiana squad that will be Big Ten bottom feeders all year long. All bark, no bite. Thanks Clawson!!

I have an active bet with one of my best friends that if Indiana leads the B1G in both passing and total offense, he owes me a beer, otherwise I owe him a beer. We made that bet a bit before the season starts. I don't intend to be buying any beer. Indiana's offense is legit. This is a program on the rise. I kid you not. They're not bottom feeders anymore, that's where Iowa and Purdue are heading. No they're not going to be contending for the Rose Bowl, but I pegged them before the year as 6-6 or 7-5 and will be going into the future kinda like Northwestern going into the future ... that team that will have good seasons and wreck someone's plans big time with the occasional huge season.
