See where Dave Wannstedt accepted the coaching job at alma mater University of Pittsburgh on Thursday.
My guess is he will hire Tim Backman as his DC.
(Just a little something I heard in Mobile)

Does Beckman have any ties to Pittsburgh? Who did you hear this from?

If that happens, either some people here don't know anything about football or Dave Wannstedt doesn't.

A classic example of addition by subtraction. just kidding. That really is some interesting speculation though.

We supposedly said our goodbyes to Tim Beckman after the UT game too, thinking that he would be offered the Western job. I would be surprised if this turned out to be true, but it would be a great opportunity to re-visit our marginal defensive scheme.

Must.... resist... temptation... to comment on this so close to Christmas.
Aw what the hell, I'm a lapsed Catholic anyway. I'll take Beckman's football knowledge over any five people COMBINED on this board....

From the story about Wannstedt's hiring on espn.com
Wannstedt faces a busy few weeks hiring a staff -- he wants to retain some of Harris' assistants, including defensive coordinator Paul Rhoads
That would certainly make it difficult for Beckman.

Are you really sure about that? Think of a top five along the lines of...
1. The Freak (a given)
2. Option
3. Warthog
4. NWLB (on a good day)
5. And anyone besides BGSUfanatUT
...and I bet they could outwit Beckman.
Okay okay, before I get flamed I am obviously just kidding.

RC,
Thanks, I guess, maybe, not sure.

May or may not be a bad thing.....

Especially if Coach Beckman keeps up this scheme of recruiting undersized DT's.

The thing is that our defense is no where on par with our offense. Just imagine though if our defense was on par with the offense. We probably do have a chance to go undefeated next year. But I'll never see that until we get a serious kick butt, smash mouth , good sized defense. That huge NT for Memphis seemed to have his way with Murcrowski at times in that game Wed. I believe he went like 328lbs. Notice that we didn't even hit Wimprine once during the game and no sacks. And they have a smallish o-line for d1. football. So I'm guessing that their quicker athletism kept our d-line at bay for the most part. We need to start recruiting on defense as hard as we are most suredly doing for offense. Coach Brandon needs to go after some good ones this winter. And boy we're we lucky to have Willams go out with a broken fibula.

Our ability to stop him after he broke his leg didn't look very encouraging either. The Falcon defense sure needs to thank their lucky stars they didn't have to face him in the second half.
GO FALCONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MORE IN '05!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm not entirely positive Williams would have won the game for Memphis anyway.
We led nearly the entire game. Williams didn't come out for good until the 3rd qtr., and our defense was finally getting fired up and making some great plays around that time.
It would probably have been a closer game, but I still think we would have won even had Williams been healthy the whole game.

I agree 100 percent. We shut them down in the third, and Williams didn't go down until the third was almost over.

While Williams didn't leave until the quarter was almost over, he was hurt early in the quarter and was not effective even when in the game.
