Coppet - NOW!

Enough with the experiment of a WR at running back. Coppet needs to be the starter and play NOW! This kid is an actual "running back" with the potential to be the best we've had since I can remember. Even our best in recent memory have basically been specialists like Samuel and Pope. This kid's the real deal.

Although Coppet is very good, I disagree that Greene at RB is a failed experiment, or even an experiment at all. The guy has moves, has the ability to break tackles, and runs over people quite often. Additionally, he seems to be able to move the pile at times and he runs at top speed. Now, if Greene had stayed at receiver, then between Givens and Coppet I would take Coppet. But right now, Greene seems to be just as gifted as Coppet, roughly the same size, but appears to possess that extra gear while making his cuts. Some people slow down to make a cut, but Greene appears to make cuts at full speed.

Greene has played three games at RB and looked very good in two of them. No way do yo sit him...I can see Coppet earning more carries as the season wears on, but there is no need to make change full time now.

I guess I'm just tired of seeing these tiny guys running the ball. Sure, in our offense they show flashes from time-to-time, but I just want us to have a real running back for a change. Greene can still stay in the position, assuming we don't need another WR, but make him the third down back. Coppet has the skills to avoid contact that Greene just doesn't have. So I look for Greene to break down pretty quickly. I hope I'm wrong as we need them both, but we'll see. To me though, I've seen it in every game that Coppet can be one of the greats. He just seems to have something we haven't seen in a VERY long time. Hopefully we won't have to wait a year or more to find out.

Fred will probably get a chance to do some damage this week vs. Murray State, and if he does I would expect to see him more at RB. Greene hasn't been terrible either, he was leading the MAC in rushing after the first two weeks of the season, so you can't discount that at all. Coppet will get his chance sooner rather than later.

I agree. I think Greene is pretty much giving us what Samuel did, at least from what I can tell early on. I do like what I have seen from Coppet as well, but I see no reason to replace Greene.

I actually think Givens is the better every down back at this point between all three. Not impressed with Greene as the go to guy.

Coppet got hurt in the IU game, and you also don't know how well he has learned the "system" and the things that go with it like blocking and pass protection. He will get his turn in time, and if the coaches thought he was our best. Choice to win NOW, he would be paying more.

Speaking of Coppet, John Wagner said Fred Coppet injured his hip late in that game and that BG officials said doctors are still trying to pinpoint the severity of Coppet’s injury. So who knows.....hope he's okay.

Is it possible that we have too many rbs. I think Greenes good but that both Givens and Coppett will both be better backs.

I liked the RBs IU had - nice size and speed. Our backs look so little.

No. According to Clawson, you can't have too many RBs or DLs.

Worth noting that Samuel's YPC last year was 4.9 while Greene's is 4.8. Greene is on pace to get about 1000 yards this year...Samuel had about 1000 yds last year.
I am not at all unhappy with Greene and think he should get the bulk of the carries...

I'm very happy with Greene as our starter. I'm also stoked about our depth. There aren't many MAC schools that could have Coppet as a depth guy. That being said I would like to see more of Coppet early in games. He would be kinda like Jordan Roussos in 2010. He may make some mistakes here and there which goes with the territory being new in the offense, but he'll make plays purely out of effort and talent.
