Northern Illinois Impressive

Post by Rollo83 »

Watching the Huskies dominate Purdue in the first half. That's a good looking offense. Hoping we get the chance to see if our offense can match them in a MAC title game.

They are making Purdue look awful, which maybe they are but still impressive.

Northern Illiinois just scored twice in the first 4 minutes of the second half. 41-10 Huskies. Wow!

Not after BG beats them.

Buffalo was impressive too. Sure Connecticut was in letdown mode, they aren't very good to begin with, and their coach might be fired before the season is over, but a gigantic win over an AAC school is quite noteworthy.

NIU's win over Purdue today marks the first time a MAC team has beaten two Big Ten foes during the same regular season (NIU also beat Iowa in week one) and the Huskies tied the MAC record for victory margin over a Big Ten school.

We all remember the Falcons got two Big Ten wins in 2003 if you include the entire season.

It would be criminal not to rank the Huskies at this point. Iowa's only loss is to Northern Illinois.

NIU goes in at 23rd in the Coaches Poll. They were ranked in the AP poll but not by much, as they are the top team in the others receiving votes

NIU had their BCS chance last year. They couldn't move the ball for most of the game and were outclassed athletically. The BCS is a formula but I doubt people will be clamoring to see them again given the most recent results.

Bah Humbug!

Basically, as a BG fan, if NIU is there that means we're not and I desire success for BG and BG alone. That million or so dollar they made us by making the game was offset by their substandard performance that harmed the reputation of the conference.

People didn't clamor last year. Kirk Herbstreit was almost apopletic.

Northern Illinois was the best non BCS team in the Top 16. Thus, they got to play in the Orange Bowl. If do it again, they'll play in the Fiesta Bowl this year. Those are the rules, at least for this year, and they are good.

Naturally, I hope Bowling Green stops Northern Illinois in Detroit. But if we can't, more power to them.

Absolutely Mark. They not only beat UConn but smashed them. To think the AAC gets a bcs bid is criminal.
