What an awesome story. This family has a 5 year old cancer patient who refuses to give up a fight. The family contacted NIU about wanting to come to a game and NIU invited them to a practice. During the conversation a joke about little five year old Zach sacking Jordan Lynch came up. During practice, Zach lined up at DE, made a pretty sick move on the tackle, and took down a Heisman candidate QB.

Great story, very classy move by NIU. Makes me really want the opportunity to play those guys on the field. And makes me proud to support a MAC team.

This is a great story, and I can tell you first hand that that this spirit of community service exits within our program at the same level. I've never mentioned this before for my respect for those that were willing to give their time for my child and family about two years ago.
Freddie, Coach Clawson, Coach Tom Crean of IU, and a neighbor who was not afraid to make a few phone calls will always be our heroes and in our prayers for the time and gifts they gave.
Coach Clawson gave time out of his schedule to sit and talk in his office. Both my boys played ball with Freddie inside Doyt Perry Stadium and got coaching from Tom on the floor of Assembly Hall down in Bloomington.
My avatar reflects a moment of a very memorable day.
BTW. Everything is good here.

You know I'm no preacher, Pete. The things those folks did gave us some pretty cool things to talk about during a year when we really needed the distractions.

If Coach gets us to the MAC title, we'll be there.

Great story FortWayne. Not only was it the right thing to do, they kept it private and didn't go out of their way to publicize it in order to gain notoriety for themselves as I strongly suspect some places do.

I hope it didn't come off like I was down on the NIU publicity. Just wanted to tell about.
