What makes our campus great?

Hi Falcon fans! I’m a freshman here at BG majoring in architecture, and I’m doing a project for my Intro to Critical Thinking class. My presentation will be how the campus architecture can be used to promote the university, and one of my topics will be the athletics facilities, like the Doyt, Stroh, Ice Arena, etc. I’ve only been on campus for 8 weeks, so I want some help from BG fans who have been here longer than me for ideas on what to include in my presentation. If you could post anything you like about attending games in our facilities (or anything you like about the rest of campus), I would greatly appreciate it! My presentation will be highlighting the positives of what we currently have, so please don’t suggest changing a building. Thanks!

University Hall.
That's about it. They should have stuck with that type of building everywhere and the campus would be gorgeous. Instead every building is different.
The Bird outside of the Arena is awesome.
The Union is cool.

HUM is great. I also like the library and the Union and the old building next to the Union. The layout of the campus as a whole seemed to be pretty logical or it could be that I was just lucky and all my classes were close to each other. The area south of the Union where there are plenty of trees is a nice space.
Good luck with your project.

I think the natural topography of Wood county is what makes the campus great. The layout of the campus and building designs really blend well with the natural hills and dales of the area..

Walking from the admin building to University and feeling the history. Love that I received my masters in an August ceremony in front of University.
Athletic facilities - sitting so close you can smell the stale pads at hockey and hear the grunts from football.
Seeing the lights of the Doyt from 6 or 199 and realizing this field lights the cornfields for miles. Kevin Costner must have been involved.
The smells, the sounds, those spring afternoons and fall evenings that will always remind me of the best years.

You must be forgetting that lovely, memorable smell of Poe Ditch when the wind is just right!

The Wolfe Center is pretty slick, architecturally. Other than that, architecture isn't one of our strong selling points. Fortunately, we've got other attractions.
The Ice Arena isn't pretty, but a lot of history was made there: our national championship, olympians, state high school champions... I recall hearing that BG is getting the archives & mementos of the late/great CCHA--hope they do something creative with that stuff.
"The House That Roars" also has much history, but it won't be with us for long.

There are some bad ones for sure. Probably worse was the elevators in Founders.

You may want to show photos of the buildings in chronological order of being built. From my distant memories of the campus, the structures were not built with any concern of blending in with what was already there. The timeline of the buildings shows more of an evolution on how architecture has changed in the past 100 years. Dorms show a wide range in how architecture has changed. Prior to Stroh, there was Anderson and some other place I can't recall. Prior to Doyt Perry, football was played near where the library now is. Prospective students I believe are more concerned with what the school has to offer, and less with the package it is wrapped in. So the BG campus is more of a display of contemporary architecture at the time it was designed. Just my thoughts. Good Luck.
