Slow Starts ... Solid Finishes

Much has been talked about our slow starts so far, with adjustments coming at halftime. I decided to take a look back...

Tulsa 6-0 at half / 34-7 final
Kent St 17-22 in 2nd / 41-22 final
Murray St 6-0 end of 1st / 48-7 final
Akron 3-14 until late in 2nd / 31-14 final
UMASS 7-0 until late in 2nd / 28-7 final
Miss St 3-14 until 4min in 2nd / 20-21 final

While I like what our team and coaching staff has done so far this year, jumping out early has to be an emphasis moving forward. If this trend continues we're going to dig ourselves into a hole we can't get out of. This wasn't started to bash the coaching staff, just curious of everyone's thoughts on what we should do to address this.

Make half-time adjustments before the game starts? :?

I have no idea what the issue is, but we all remember in years past games where we jumped out to a big lead and then didn't adjust at all and watched a comeback and a loss. I'll take what we have now over the past any day.

Personally, I don't care how we do it, as long as we win the game. It doesn't have to be pretty; just be a W.

Agreed. I don't want to come off as complaining. When it's happened in nearly every game this year I just get to thinking... what can we do to avoid this? What adjustments are we making at halftime that couldn't happen sooner.? Kent, Akron and Miss St we basically looked helpless on D the first few drives, then we tighten up and barely gave up another score. In the end I agree though, I'll take a W. I don't care how we do it.

My theory is teams come in with a game plan that is opposite of what BG has been scheming for. We saw Kent throw the ball a ton against us, Akron the same, and Miss St. showed some different looks as well, especially on some of their option plays. Good teams make adjustments and if you can keep it close at half time, you have a good chance of winning.

I suppose I should add this to the list. Why can't we dominate from start?

Tulsa 6-0 at half / 34-7 final
Kent St 17-22 in 2nd / 41-22 final
Murray St 6-0 end of 1st / 48-7 final
Akron 3-14 until late in 2nd / 31-14 final
UMASS 7-0 until late in 2nd / 28-7 final
Miss St 3-14 until 4min in 2nd / 20-21 final
Toledo 0-21 in 2nd / 25-28 final
