If Coach clawson should leave at the end of the season to coach whereever who is on the short list to replace him?

Let's focus on the coach circa 2033...I suspect that Paul Swan will have to be viewed as a serious candidate.

How about instead you ignore this thread and let people who actually want to talk about it talk about it? How you can think its appropriate in one thread to talk about his possible destination but this type of thread is inapropriate is beyond me.

I really don't see the point of this thread. Clawson isn't going to go anywhere unless BG gets to the MAC Title game. Very, very few MAC coaches have left their schools without reaching this game. The team still has Toledo, Ohio and Buffalo to worry about, and all three are games they can lose. An 8-4 or 7-5 season will not only be a major disappointment but will also ensure that Dave is back here next year.

There is an entire thread talking about how other programs will want him after this year. Please go into that thread.

They'll want him if he's able to prove he can take the next step at Bowling Green. No bigger program is going to hire a coach who's highest win total was 8 at a mid-major school, and that includes UConn.

Fair enough. I don't see Elko wanting a head job, he'll likely get a DC job at a bigger school, and Ruggiero has been sought after as well. If they do end up losing Clawson, they'll likely reach out to an up and comer who can handle a team that has a good foundation and can win now.

Personally I like our D coordinator a lot. Been here 5 years and has been with DC even longer. I think he is the best candidate to keep what we have and continuing to build it. I'm no fan of our offense so DC can take the offense with him;). That said I have been saying since last year that Clawson still hasn't won anything. 1-3 against UT, 0-2 bowl record, zero wins against power conferences, near .500 winning % here, zero MAC championship appearances. He doesn't have a signature season either. I think we not only need to win the East but I think we need to win out and be 10-2 for him to get strong consideration for a BCS payday.

Clawson has done really well here but we're still not over the hump which I consider a team that is playing in the MAC championship. I think this UT game will tell us a lot about how good we actually are.

The last time we went in house was Brandon and that didn't go well. Thoughts about any local assistants that might fit?

I'd look at Ohio State and see if either Herman or Fickell are interested. I doubt anyone from the Michigan or Michigan State staffs will want to go, so the options may be fairly limited in terms of local schools. I'm not brushed up enough on the other major programs out there who have assistants that are looking to move on, but you see a guy like Petrino at WKU and perhaps BG could go after a coach with a track record who is looking to re-establish himself.

I love that idea and am not oppossed to coaches with blemishes. Fickell might be a great guy because he is a well known name in the state and has a year of head coaching experience.

IMO Fickell is not a good coach. That OSU team he coached was way too talented to go 6-7 and the defense is as bad as it has been there in a long long time.
