I really don't like games like last night. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the win and the stress-less viewing of the game from my living room.
But as far as the development of the team, this really didn't do too much for me. It had kind of a preseason scrimmage feel to it. Miami is absolutely terrible and couldn't get out of their own way. I don't know any more about this BG team than when the game started.
I guess you can say we got a dose of confidence after a couple of tough losses, but is the confidence misguided? Yes, we went out and did what we needed to do...beat a bad team convincingly. But did we fix any of the problems we’ve had against the better teams we’ve lost to? Will we be able to stop the running attack of Buffalo?
I guess it says something when a 48-3 victory over Miami doesn’t make me feel giddy, but I have bigger goals for this team and the jury is still out. Wins against Ohio at home and on the road at Eastern Michigan probably won’t give me any answers either. It most likely will all come down to the Buffalo game on the road.

A big thing you're missing is how the defense played without Gabe Martin. Yeah, it was Miami, but Justin Ford made a lot of good plays last night and forced a fumble which led to a touchdown. It was also great to get the 2nd team guys in and even better that they didn't surrender a point. It was a "get well" game for the program, something they needed at the right time before Ohio and Buffalo. Keep in mind that everyone in the East plays Miami, and even OU gave up 16 points to them.

Agree with JP...last night gave Ford, Coby and even Coppet a chance to get some reps and get comfortable.
The team needed to show it can come out and just drill a bad team on the road and they did just that. It was a good effort and a nice win.

Well think about this then before we play Ohio and EMU to get you more excited about those games. BG has lost 3 consecutive times at home to Ohio and hasn't beaten the Bobcats at the Doyt since an Omar Jacobs-led team did back in 2005. As for EMU, they dealt us a crucial loss in 2008, just a few weeks after we beat Top-25 Pitt on the road, that really cost us in the MAC.

Also keep in mind, Miami lost its starting QB Boucher before the BG game. Not saying it would have made much of a difference, but he was a lot better than the two QB's we faced last night.

It's nice that the defense got to get some game reps without key players that won't be around for the rest of the season, and it also gave valuable minutes to substitutes who (1) might be called on during those upcoming important games and (2) may also end up being future starters.
It was also nice that BG actually put a team away fairly early that it was supposed to.
Now we'll see if the Clawson Rule stays true during the next game against Ohio, and whether this team can start fast against a good team or win a key game in the conference -- two things that have eluded it during most of Clawson's tenure as coach. Another loss in one of these key games (let alone another key game at home) will pretty much solidify what some of us have been concerned about with this staff. They can beat the weak teams but will never win anything of consequence while coaching at BG.

That Miami Ohio team could be the worst team in college football.. Sad thing is if they are not maybe umass is.. Fact is this Mac east is a joke and thankfully bg has shown the ability to beat the really bad teams but still haven't figured out how to beat the good teams.. I guess buffalo Is now good? Or is everyone else just horrible ?

It doesn't take much to beat a UMass, Miami or Eastern Michigan. Buffalo has a talented, veteran running back that sets up their passing game and an NFL talent at linebacker that leads the defense.
Toledo and BG are equally as talented (if not more so) and the MAC refs that swung the Ohio game in their favor can only be that bad once. Actually, scratch that last one.
