Color me a naysayer if you want, but frankly I don't see where Dave Clawson is worth any more than 400k. At least not until we win a MAC title.

I am in the minority on this, but I really don't think the program was in as bad of shape when he took over as it was made out to be. Personally, I think it was propaganda by GC to defend his firing and deflect criticism. Thus to reward Clawson with an extension for winning games against the bottom of the FBS was just another boneheaded decision. They should have evaluated where the program was at after this year. Him signing an extension isn't going to keep him at BG; so basically we just gave away money to reward a staff that hasn't done anything to prove they are worthy of a raise.

With the ability to recruit off the Sebo Center, I personally think this program should at the very least be the top team in the East. We'll see on Tuesday....

They should cap FBS salaries at around 500k and keep coaches off the merry-go-round. Moving every two to five years chasing the almighty buck is no way to live. Hell, they are starting to buckle over on the field with strokes, etc.

Make no mistake....the program was in disarray in 2008. Reduced scholarships (8), off field troubles (home invasion arrests etc...) departures on huge scale for academics etc....(the 2005 and 2007 years in particular) left us with no experienced depth. Other than the tackles....have we had freshmen beyond guys like Moore and Coppet that played their way up the two deep forced to play?

The program was in total disarray. Flip mentioned numerous points, but the ultimate back breaker was the blown lead against Buffalo and then Brandon ripping on the fans. He immediately lost the support of the administration and the community. There are also many stories of him being drunk and belligerent at the bars during the week which only served to encourage the players to do the same, hence the issues with APR, kids getting suspended/arrested and the like.

They're still being paid.

GB needed to go. Clawson cleaned up the rubbish and did a nice job doing so. However, I do think the 09 team was better than 7-6 and we left some wins on the field in 2010. None of that was all that concerning to me at the time but 3 and 4 years later it concerns me that we are still leaving wins on the field with his players and system.

4th best is good for me. Long time ago you could write it down each year that we had the lowest paid coaches in the conference. This is showing a commitment to the program. I like the message it sends.

Looks like a decent wage for a MAC coach. Glad we are not in 10th to 12 spot on coaching salary for our program as has been suggested in the past.

I think the program is in good standing in all areas except beating BCS and winning conference titles. On the flip side we haven't won a conference title since Blackney so it's not easily done. I still have confidence the program is in position to get one and I see no reason to change direction now.

Amen. The program needed new blood after 2008.

The Athletic Dept may be showing commitment, but not much from the community or student body from my pov.
