NIU was down TommyLee Lewis and Ja'Ron Brown barely took any snaps. Those two are healthy and their passing game is infinitely better. They should be ready to go for the MAC Championship so if BG makes it, they will have their hands full. The only lose 4 players on offense next year, one of them Lynch, but I suspect they'll still be one of if not the top team once again in the MAC.Rollo83 wrote:It's amazing to see to see how a talented, experienced quarterback makes so much of a difference at the college level. Northern Illinois is simply a good to average MAC team without Jordan Lynch. With him, they have been able to reach heights no MAC teams have ever or seldom reached.
Our linebackers will be challenged to stop his read option runs if we get to Detroit. Obviously, we'd rather have him try and beat us through the air than with his legs.
I'm going to have to disagree with you here. Although it just so happened that Idaho and Purdue suck something awful this year, scheduling two Big Ten teams in a season isn't what I would call a weak non-conference in terms of a MAC school. It makes sense that the commissioner would want NIU to win out for financial reasons (although saying it out loud may not have been the greatest choice...didn't see the interview though). I am obviously rooting for BG to kick ass in the next two weeks, but I also think that both NIU and Lynch deserve all of the attention they're receiving.mscarn wrote:The MAC is about so much more than one team and one player. They had their shot last year, failed, played a weak non conference schedule and are back again hoping everyone has amnesia.
Steinbrecher gave an interview to Tim Brando today that went beyond the expected advocacy a commisioner should provide to teams in their conference. He openly expressed hope that NIU holds serve and wins out. The only problem is two teams named Bowling Green and Buffalo who deserve a level playing field and a conference that is not actively rooting for them to lose. It's monumentally unfair to send this wink-wink message to referees who, as we have seen, hold the power to influence games.
We'll have to agree to disagree. At some point, though, NIU needs to put up or shut up. If they're as good as they think they are then play Ohio State. Play LSU. Play a top-tier, name opponent. Until then the Florida State game continues to be the referendum on them and it ain't pretty: 15/41 passing, 23 rushes for 44 yards (1.9 average) and a 18.2 rating for the golden boy.drumstix2388 wrote:I'm going to have to disagree with you here. You're definitely right about them not showing up last year, and I think that is what people will remember about them. Personally I'd rather it be put to rest at the hands of a BG loss, but IF they make it to a BCS bowl this year, I'm very curious as to how the team handles things the second time around. With all of the other stuff, agree to disagree we will.mscarn wrote:We'll have to agree to disagree. At some point, though, NIU needs to put up or shut up. Depends who they play. They can't match up against a speed team as Florida State proved.h2oville rocket wrote:Lynch is amazing. NIU is very good. NIU wasn't good enough last yearto hang with FSU past the fourth quarter but there were worse BCS blowouts. Can't see tthe Dogs losing before their bowl game.

If you look at Buffalo's LOSSES this year, they've lost to.... OSU, BAYLOR (big time) and UT...not exactly a bunch of patsies...our losses to Indiana, Miss. St., and UT don't Match up with their losses IMO.... BUT I'm hoping, as are most of you, that we can continue the play we've seen since the 2nd half of the UT game... GO FALCONS!!!!!
