According to the Syracuse Post-Standard:
While the majority of projections have Syracuse heading to a bowl game and the SU administration has expressed "firm belief" that the Orange will land somewhere, there's reason for moderate concern until the invitation officially arrives.
The Mid-American Conference, which has often had bowl eligible teams left out, has been actively securing spots for its teams as replacements, and it is believed that the MAC has deals in place with the Poinsettia and the Beef 'O' Brady's Bowl for at-large spots that often go to automatic qualifying schools.
"If a team like Central Michigan gets in over a Syracuse it would be a travesty," ESPN's Mark Schlabach said.

Someone should show that quote to the guys who played for Miami in 1995. The Red****s went 8-2-1, 1-1-1 against ranked teams. They beat the Big Ten champion -- but sat at home during bowl season.
The bowl games aren't fair. They've never been fair. Did Schalabach suddenly realize this? Or was he crying for that 1995 Miami team, and we all just miss it?
What about the 2003 Northern Illinois team? Or the 1994 Bowling Green team? Or the 1979 Central Michigan team?
(I could go on.)

2001 BG team was 8-3 and absolutely on fire and watched a Toledo team they just beat 56-21 go bowling.
Re: Syracuse sweating; MAC working the phones
That was an outrage to see!! After we beat two BCS conference teams in Missouri and Northwestern and lost our 3 games by a total of 18 points.kdog27 wrote:2001 BG team was 8-3 and absolutely on fire and watched a Toledo team they just beat 56-21 go bowling.

It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
Re: Syracuse sweating; MAC working the phones
NIU also won the West division in 2005 and didn't get a bowl but Toledo did. Although that team wasn't as good as the 2003 team that got snubbed.slashba33 wrote:That was an outrage to see!! This whole scenario puts BG in the unenviable position of everyone associated with the conference, including the commisioner, rooting for them to lose so NIU could go to the BCS and open up more slots.
