Kind of makes me believe Elko has no shot at the head coaching gig.

Oops, I posted this in another thread. I think it's so Elko isn't burdened with extra duties during the game. Let him do what he does best and don't add extra unneeded distractions. Makes sense to me.

This isn't a shot at Elko at all, imo. It's more about him keeping the defense intact and prepared while Scheier is able to shift his focus to team-wide much easier.

Yeah, I am thinking this allows the team to best prepare for the bowl game. Keep Ruggiero and Elko in thier coordinator spots. They also are not giving one of the two a leg up by making them interim coach. This keeps Elko and Ruggiero on equal ground when it comes to replacing Clawson.

I agree with the first post. To me it means neither Elko or Ruggierro are being considered. I don't think I have ever seen a scenario where they name an interim coach and then hire someone else on staff to coach. And I follow this fairly closely. I could be wrong but it looks like it's either Scheirer as HC or an outside candidate.

And it frees Elko and Ruggiero up if they want to leave with Clawson...you don't want to have to name multiple "interim coaches". Would love to see guys like Scheier and Monroe stay here with the new coach

Hard telling. It's possible both guys were asked if they've be interested in the head coaching vacancy and they each said they'd rather be coordinators on Clawson's staff. Maybe either one is a candidate but it's more important to not add distractions to the game than have an audition for the job. Maybe they drew straws.

Both Ruggiero and Elko coached under Clawson at Hofstra. I can't help but wonder if this means both are heading for Winston-Salem.

This would be my assumption. However I would assume both would be interviewed here first for the job. Usually there is a guy in waiting scenario. Makes me think Elko isn't the head coaching candidate that many of us thought he was.

Could be. Although, I thought they would want to see Elko game plan, prep, and practice like a head coach leading to the bowl game.

My guess is that we have a very very skeleton coachng staff for this thing.

Minor point: they coached together at Hofstra but not under Clawson. Elko was the linebackers coach at Richmond under Clawson. Ruggiero had never worked with Clawson before BG but they had mutual friends in the profession.

Elko clearly has the stronger case to be made the HC, but in either case Nick Monroe is the prime candidate for a promotion to defensive coordinator under either one of them.

My guess is that Elko and Ruggiero are leaving as well, whether or not its with Clawson is TBD. My guess is that Clawson is respectful enough to let them stay with BG for the bowl game to not gut the staff completely.

If it's not Elko, he's going to land on his feet. Wouldn't it be funny if BG hired another teams coordinator and that team hired Elko?
