I have been thinking about the BGSU situation in general. Some may call me crazy but I really think we should consider thinking out of the box in terms of a new stadium. Here is a link to a proposed dome stadium at Jackson State.
One problem with BG is weather- it sucks. I went to several games with 4 extra tickets in hand as everyone said- too cold or windy or it might rain. The day of games sometimes folks would jump in and go if they saw it would be a decent day. I could easily have had a full van if the weather was not a factor. I believe our attendance would double.
The stadium lacks energy. A dome creates a loud venue that breeds excitement. More energy- more people in the seats. Simply put a better Football "culture" and a tougher place to play. Probably easier to keep a good coach as well. If Jackson state can do it..... I just think it is time to make things happen. I have always believed if you do something- do it right or do not do it at all. If the university ask for cash for simply "fresh concrete" in crappy weather- count me out.
A link is below. Food for thought...

Football should be played outdoors and let the natural elements play a role in the game. And this is coming from someone whom works with a team that plays in a dome. I really enjoyed watching the Lions game I taped against Philadelphia. That was football! Playing outdoors in a snow storm. A Dome idea for college is a BAD idea.

I hate the idea of a dome for college football. Yeah it's nice at the end of the year for a game or two, but it sucks it the start and middle of the year when weather is great. No thanks. Syracuse, Idaho, Tulane, UTSA, Georgia State - no thanks.

I know a knowledgeable sportswriter who is absolutely convinced that the Carrier Dome saved Syracuse football. It's cold and snowy up there; the dome helped get fans to come out to their games even when it was snowing.
I think a dome would help us, too. It also sounds insanely expensive and wildly unrealistic, especially if it was right-sized (that is to say, bigger than the Kibbie Dome). But we would get *much* bigger crowds in November. That wind is awfully cold.
I loved watching the Lions game last weekend, too, but we wouldn't have gotten more than a few thousand fans in that kind of weather.

I agree that we wouldn't have had the crowd we did at the Mac title game if it were at our stadium. I think a dome in unrealistic, but I've often wondered if there's a way to build an expansion on the stadium that also makes a serious debt in blocking wind. Perhaps a big chunk of suites like UT has? Then you could have people in the suites in the warmth and block some of the wind for the ones outside.

I actually found a group that designs high school stadium domes that seat 8-10 k. Cost is not bad either. Sorry but you will have the same old, same old crappy environment without one. New concrete will do little for the environment here. 4-8k on hand the last couple of games- real exciting..... There is no momentum throughout the year to build the fan base in those conditions. Time to think out of the box or keep replacing coaches and losing a year of recruiting as a result every 5 years or so- or worse yet having a bad team with the old coach and few people in the stands. Society is changing- too many other options for people other than sitting in 20 degree weather. The last two games of the season suck in BG. It is time to acknowledge what we have here. Detroit was a great place to watch the game. I will be there.

A dome would be great...Syracuse weather is worse than our weather, but that's like saying it's better to get stabbed than shot...they both suck.
We have people questioning if we should spend the $$$ to go to bowl games..can you imagine the uproar if we built a sweet looking domed stadium?

So we're supposed to not have a sweet Jetsons stadium so John Wagner doesn't have to rappel down an arch? Is this Russia?

Don't know how carefully you guys read the article but the estimated cost was $200 MILLION! I do believe that Jackson, Miss. is a bit larger than BG, Ohio...no matter what the student body numbers show... and to think..." if each student brought a friend, there would be 30K at the game, so build it to hold 50K".... Right!

Looks to me like they're building the church for Christmas and Easter.

So that's why Grambing cancelled the game against them.
