my girlfriend. She watched some of the game. I'm not sure, but I think her curse might work on other schools. Or maybe just MAC schools.

UT backup QB Stevens will transfer to Chattanooga

By MATT MARKEY
BLADE SPORTS WRITER

The University of Toledo football team has lost another one of its top backup players with the transfer of quarterback Cedric Stevens to the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.

Running back Astin Martin left UT last month to transfer to Grand Valley State.

Because Tennessee-Chattanooga is a Division I-AA program, Stevens, who will be a senior next season and has just one year of eligibility remaining, will be able to play right away. If he had transferred to a Division I school, Stevens would have had to sit out a year.

Stevens played very little in his two seasons with Toledo, throwing just 46 passes. His exit leaves the Rockets with just one quarterback who has ever taken a snap in a college game - starter Bruce Gradkowski.

Stevens came to UT from Butler County Community College in Kansas. He backed up Brian Jones in 2002, playing in just four games and throwing only 14 passes. Stevens came out of spring practice last year listed as the No.1 quarterback, but lost the job to Gradkowski early in August.

An official at UT-Chattanooga said Stevens plans to stay in Toledo until he graduates this spring, then move to Chattanooga.

Gradkowski started all 12 games as a sophomore last season and was outstanding in leading the team to an 8-4 record. Stevens (6-4, 235) saw mop-up work in six games, rushing six times for 52 yards and completing 21 of 32 passes for 129 yards (no touchdowns, one interception).

Stevens, a native of Syracuse, N.Y., who received scholarship offers from Purdue, West Virginia and Oklahoma State, joins a very crowded quarterback picture. UT-Chattanooga used five players at quarterback last season, and has four underclassmen on its roster at the position, as well as three quarterback recruits.

UT-Chattanooga, of the Southern Conference, went 3-9 last season.

An excuse albeit a plausible one. I'm sure the defense, running backs, and special teams had absolutely nothing to do with the loss. Losing a starting QB sucks, but there were a lot of issues with that game.

Ya Think? Naaw

That was a serious post and its UT's fault for losing that guy. But if you want to be that way, here goes.....

You'd have killed Memphis without Omar and Pope. Of course, ya couldn't beat us with them.

What about Council?

Read my entire post I was also being serious. Your entire team looked like dung last night, and got worse as the game went on.

We were doing just fine beating the hell out of you until we killed ourselves. Your gain typically comes out of other peoples screw-ups. And what makes you think the world is so hopeless without Omar? I'd point out what somebody like yourself obvious misses being an LDU fan, and note that Omar had hardly seen any action before starting this year. Our program does something your does not, it actually prepares the next QB before he takes over. I frankly think there is more QB talent backing Omar than your school has from and including the starter.

LDU, Eh

What is your hometown? San Diego? Paris? Obviously there is enough commerce left in LD for you to make a living.

Actually there isn't, or I might not have had to change careers a few years ago, but I've learned not to count on that city for anything good.

Come on Down!
