MAC champs with Schilz??

Post by slashba33 »

Not sure if anyone else has brought this up, but do we still win the MAC this season if Clawson did not pull the plug on Schliz and put in Johnson in the Tulsa game? My thought is...HELL NO!! Johnson's mobility and versatility keep many plays and drives alive. Plus, he will thrive even more in Babers' offense with the experience from this season.

Even though Clawson has moved on, we need to remember and appreciate that decision made in the Tulsa game!

Why don't you remember and appreciate the effort and abilities of Matt Schilz? Why not appreciate the fact that he was a hard working student athlete who helped prep Johnson every week and contributed to a MAC Title by being a good teammate and mentor?

Great point. I feel as if most players going into their 4th season of starting would definitely have been a distraction after replacement. But you never heard anything of him besides from Clawson, Johnson and other teammates praising him for the leadership he displayed, especially towards Johnson. A lot of guys on here bashed Schilz for his leadership skills last season. But I have always believed that he has been a good leader, and this season proved that. I remember a quote from Clawson earlier in the year saying something to the tone of, "In 2010, Schilz had zero protection and was getting destroyed each game, but he still hung in there and never put anything on any of his teammates." Schilz, in my opinion, made BG a better program, as did every senior this year. And when its all said and done, he will still rank very highly in program history on lists such as passing yards, touchdowns and starts.
