I'm even more happy now that BG won, for us and the MAC. I hope NIU can at least beat Troy. After BG's win over Memphis, the MAC was something like 9-1 since the late 1990's. Now with three consecutive losses, we're 9-4. Oh well.

there is a reason the conference was something like 3-30 against ooc 1-a teams. At least BG went 2-1 in those type games.

I thought it was a small miracle that Miami led into the 4th quarter. They were outplayed for the vast majority of the game and Iowa State deserved to win. I hope NIU can beat Troy, but I wouldn't bet on it right now.

Yes Miami got outplayed all game long. Timely penalties kept them in the game.
Maybe one of these mac teams could have beaten notre dame. They look pretty awful right now.

I just don't think Miami was all that talented this year. Josh Betts was terrrible tonight. Couldn't throw long at all. They also looked flat. BG would have lit them both up. NIU probably won't beat Troy. This one is tuff to call. I think the MAC really missed a golden opportunity. We won't see 5 bowls again for a long time. I would be very surprised.

Just another reason I'm getting sick of being in the MAC...just when we get a chance, we blow it. We being the conference as a whole, not BG

What a pitifull season for the MAC

. Except for BGSU of course. I'm hoping the MAC can put this season all behind them and come out strong next season, real strong!

Betts IS terrible period. How they let themselves get this far without getting that kid more groomed, unless that is as good as he can be. He gets rattled, and under pressure late in a tight game, he crumbles. They folded against Toledo almost the same way when he started throwing picks like candy at a parade. He just isn't very good.
In some ways I would really love getting BG back into the east so we could run over the division, beat LDU, and maybe get to do it twice in one year if they made the title game.
I said on MACsports (plug) weeks ago that I thought the MAC would have a tought time winning all of these games. The MAC will be lucky to win even two. It isn't that I don't think Wee Detroit U. couldn't have beaten UConn with a full slate of players, though it wouldn't have been a given. And Miami was well able to win that game had their HORRIBLE QB not blown his latest game. But this wasn't a good year for the MAC in general, and the teams it has been matched against are at least on par with them. In the future, with Toronto, maybe Denver, the MAC must look and hope for more favorable match-ups.
Plus in a better year, the conference doesn't lose those games. But you play when you can, not when you want too.

I think that Miami believed, just like I thought, that Roethlisberger was going to stay for his senior season. So they didn't worry about getting Betts in last season. This excuse aside, Betts really didn't show much improvement over the coarse of this season. He was average at best.

Funny how before the bowls started a lot of folks were talking about the MAC going 5-0 or 4-1. Now the teams are doing absolutely nothing to dispel the myth that the MAC is a "wannabe." When it's all over, no one is going to remember that Marshall disowned the MAC before its game, that Toledo was without its two main offensive cogs and that Miami was working with a lame duck coach. All they'll see is the friggin' egg we layed.
We need NIU to win. A 2-3 mark is not impressive, but 1-4 would really be an embarrassment.

Its not like Ben decided to go pro as they came out of the tunnel for their first game this year. And I don't even think that when he announced he was going pro after the GMAC Bowl last year did they not believe it was happening. Granted, they might not have thought it for most of the season, so they might not have prepped Betts the same way they would have if Ben were a senior and leaving, but they had time. Plenty of time. It's not like Omar saw any major game time to prep for this year, either.

This is disappointing....Good thing BG won!
We really need NIU to step up and win tomorrow night.

It was a cruddy year for the MAC, and we didn't earn those extra bowl bids--we got them by default. In fact, our conference had the only bowl eligible team to stay home. Its a shame this couldn't have happened last year.

Miami was outplayed period. The fact that Betts cant throw on the run has been a huge problem all year. He also has to make the worst decisions of any qb in the MAC. He throws balls in such tight places he was lucky not to have 4 or 5 interceptions. His receivers make him look better then he really is, however, I think the play calling was atrocious last night, and the offensive line was extremely poor.
I have been disappointed with the MAC's play in Bowl Games, but Toledo's loss shouldve been expected losing two major starters.
Marshall's defense didnt bring their A game.
Miami's normally reliable defense was non-existent and I think announcing Shane as the new coach before the game was the wrong thing to do.
Now for Northern Illinois, they better want the game, because the team that seems to want it more has been winning. If they dont want to be out in Cali it will show, and they will lose.
