WKU Trip

I didn't see anything posted regarding this info, so if I missed it and this is redundant, my apologies.

I attempted to book a room for the WKU game and found out some unfortunate news. The Corvette museum is having their 20th anniversary event, beginning on Wednesday the 27th and running through the weekend. I spoke to a desk clerk at a local hotel and she told me that they do this anniversary shindig every five years and as soon as they announce the dates, all of the rooms in town start getting booked.

I checked a couple of the major hotel booking sites and it doesn't look like there's much of anything left, unless you want to stay at least 30 miles out of town or roll the dice at a low end motel and pay more than it should cost to stay there. If you are planning to go down for the game and haven't already secured lodging, you might not want to wait.

I booked a hotel in Elizabethtown which is about 70 miles away from WKU. Not ideal, but it makes the drive back home on Saturday a bit shorter. Basically everything within Bowling Green, KY proper is booked up for the entire weekend, so I would recommend Elizabethtown or something nearby.

If this wasn't on a Friday I would take my camper down and stay at a nearby campground.

Jp, was looking at Elizabethtown as option also...what did you find there that sounds decent?

Jp, was looking at Elizabethtown as option also...what did you find there that sounds decent?

We're staying at the Super 8, was like $80 for the night which isn't too bad considering its a holiday weekend.

We're coming up Friday afternoon. Only a 3 hour drive if we avoid Nashville traffic. We're driving up towards Elizabethtown after the game because we had made plans to go to Mammoth Cave and the distilleries that weekend.

kdog: You probably already have this handled, but if not, just an FYI - I was also planning to incorporate a trip to Mammoth Cave into the weekend and checked with them on tour info and the ranger told me that they expect big crowds for the weekend and if I wanted to have any hope of getting into a tour, I would have to buy tickets on line ahead of time, preferrably asap. He said most times you can just show up and get a tour slot, but being a holiday weekend, he said buying tickets ahead of time would be the only option for doing a tour.

As I mentioned in another post, tickets are suppose to go on sale August 1st. We live in Louisville, so it's an easy 2 hr drive for us. E-Town (Elizabethtown) is probably the safest bet. There's a Hampton, Super 8 and several other hotels there. They have a mall that slightly larger than the BG (s)mall but nothing close to Franklin Park or whatever its called these days. Lots of fun stuff to do in Louisville esp on a Saturday, holiday weekend.

If you alll have questions or are looking for things to do in Louisville let me know . . . Louisville is a TREMENDOUS food town and has a ton of great places to eat for all kinds of budgets. as well

We will be staying in Louisville after the game to cut the trip roughly in half back to Dayton. Any good lunch recommendations for Saturday, downtown?

I am also going to be staying downtown for the PGA Championship. Good places for a nice dinner and some cocktails? Anywhere that has Pappy Van Winkle is a plus.

We are staying at the Hampton Inn on E. Jefferson.

It all depends on what you want to spend . . . If you're looking for an upper end meal then, yes Jeff Ruby's is a fine choice. I haven't been myself, but friends have had a great time there. I personally love 610 Magnolia. It's Chef Edward Lee's restaurant. He has been on Top Chef, Top Chef All Stars and beat Chef Jose Garces on Iron Chef America. It comes with a hefty price tag, but he has another restaurant downtown called Milkwood at Actor's Theatre that is very good as well and about half or less of the price as 610 Magnolia.

If you want something a little more casual there's plenty to choose from . . . Bearno's by the Bridge- THIN(ner) crust (really good local pizza), Wick's on Bardstown, more Deep Dish style (which a lot of time will have bands on Saturdays), Molly Malone's Irish Pub just down from Wick's on Bardstown.

I have heard wonderful things about Proof on Main and Seviche. Both are upper end. 4th Street Live is very touristy, but has your Hard Rock and Gordon Biersch with a few others for a quick beer and dancing if that's your thing.

The Galt House, The Brown Hotel and Seelbach are fun stops and loaded with history and fun places to eat and drink.

Give me a few parameters and I can narrow it down a little more for you.

Changed my plans. Going to the game, staying in White House TN, then coming home. Expedia was doing it's normal shady things. Showed there being rooms available in BGKY but then when I went to pay it would say the room is no longer available.

All of those places sound excellent. Do you know dress code for, 610 Magnolia? Jacket required?

Sounds like lots of good dining options. What about night life / bourbon bars?
