High flying fast paced wanna be Baylor .. Gimmick offense posting falcon fast speed limits around campus talking about offense offense and the fastest thing you will ever see...
Don't care about defense or toughness everything that made us Mac champs last year..
You knew what you were getting when you hired this guy , so not sure why this was a surprise .. Had to listen to babers run his mouth about how fast the offense would play.. Well someone forgot about defense .. And this ain't Baylor no RG3 or Bryce petty

This is what sometimes happens when a new coach comes in. BG has a revolving door of f'ball coaches coming and going. We can't keep the good ones and it's a crap shoot every-time a new one arrives. This staff, and I know it is only one game in, looks like they are very mediocre.

I went into last season expecting us to win the MAC, despite me being the eternal pessimist, because we had a defense that could stop people and a well balanced offense. Coming in to this year, I have been scared to death that we are going to return to the Gregg Brandon era of finesse offense where we can't pound out a first down on 3rd and 1 and a weak, poor tackling defense that can't stop anybody. I've avoided posting my concerns here because I didn't want to be a Debbie Downer and I was trying to remain optimistic, despite my reservations. Yes, it's only one game, but it was a worst case scenario coming to pass in week 1.

We were totally outcoached last night. I had a sinking feeling leading up to this game, hearing Brohm's comments of how he started preparing specifically for us when he got the job and all the talk from our side was how great our offense is and I didn't get the impression we were really taking WKU seriously or spending much time gameplanning for them. Watching the game, it looked like we were completely unprepared to play them. They kept running the same stuff all night and we had no clue how to stop it. Sitting back in zone coverage just allows us to be picked apart. If we don't have corners that can press at the line and cover man to man, teams are going to exploit our zones and we will be in trouble all year.

What troubles me too, is the ridiculously poor tackling. It seems like the technique they have been taught all camp is to dive at a players feet, don't wrap up and pray he trips over you. Again, that's how we played defense under Brandon. I really don't understand how the tackling was that bad, considering how far we had come in that area and how well we tackled the past couple of seasons. Many of the guys that were missing tackles all over the place last night were the same guys that knew how to tackle last year. It seems odd that a guy who is a good tackler can turn into a not so good tackler. The only explaination is that they are not coached and forced to use the proper technique in practice and as a result, it's human nature to become lazy and stop doing it the right way. I think it was 3rd and 16 at one point and WKU handed off up the middle. Their guy ran through a gaping hole, then carried defenders for about 5 yards and got the first down. Their backs were good, but that wasn't Jim Brown and Earl Campbell out there. I cringe to think of us trying to stop the Wisconsin running game..........or the Indiana passing game.

I know that we're still 0-0 in the MAC and our goals are still attainable and I'm not throwing in the towel on the season, but that said, I have a hard time finding much from last night to be encouraged about. As others have said, hopefully, this will serve as a big wakeup call to our coaches and players and we can stop listening to the hype and understand you can't just show up and win, but rather, that it has to be earned on the field.

I felt the same way. As halftime approached, I was wondering if they prepared for WKU at all, or if they thought they would be so fast that they would blaze to 60 points and not worry about defense.

WKU certainly prepared wrll for us. Playing fast with no substance is not a strategy, in any sport. WKU completely exposed that last night.

Also, their stadium looked nice on tv. Looked small, but the perfect size for that school.
