Buffalo fan's perspective of our facilities
Buffalo fan's perspective of our facilities
I was looking at the Bull's message board after the win Saturday and I found this quote interesting:
"Besides the weather, it was a great game to watch.
Also, the BG facilities are excellent (for the MAC). Their band was great (and big). Our football coaches are at a recruiting disadvantage with the facilities if recruits are buying with their eyes.
BG also have the same student attrition issue, as most of the students left at halftime."
No surprise about the weather observation and the student attrition, but I found his take on our facilities interesting.
I think everyone on this board would like to see an upgrade to The Doyt and would agree it is long overdue, but the Sebo, the turf and the general accessibility to tailgating are awesome features of our game day experience. I'm heading to OU on Saturday and without a season ticket, my options for parking in a lot adjacent to the stadium are extremely limited.
I think it helps to get an outside perspective sometimes. Imagine what our program would look like to recruits with a facility like InfoCision Stadium over at Akron!
With all of that said, I still want to see stadium renovation!

First thing I would like to see is a bigger Jumbo Tron. Yes, Akron has it heading in the right direction...and they are starting to win.

Right on! The size of the video board is completely inadequate. There is no question that those screens are pricey but it's something the athletic department needs to take a serious look at adding. I'm waiting for a private donor like Mr. Frack to step up for football. I designate my Falcon Club membership to football. It's our high profile sport and no question it generates the most publicity for the university.
Re: Buffalo fan's perspective of our facilities
No football team has nicer facilities in the MAC, for it's players. The Sebo, lockerrooms, and Perry Field House are all top notch. I also believe someone mentioned the grass practice fields are being upgraded.
Still surprised BG hasn't announced any sort of plan for the Doyt, especially with the momentum football has going, 2013 MAC Champs, exciting new coach, win over Big10 team, the makings of what looks like another trip to Detroit, a 2015 where you will return 15+ starters.
Besides lacking adequate, concessions, restrooms, and the fact it is literally falling apart in some places. One of the major drawbacks is the lack of luxury seating, and any sort of club area.
I wonder how many more people would donate to the Falcon club or up their donation if it meant they could gain access to premium seats and more importantly an indoor area to retreat to during bad weather games. I like what Kingston and his staff have done this year with the Falcon Club; better parking, an extra gate to allow for easier access into the games.

Re: Buffalo fan's perspective of our facilities
I can say for me specifically the ONLY reason I donate to the Falcon club is because I must to maintain my seats at the Stroh. No doubt there are football fans that would make more donations as well if they got premium seats or some other perks of membership. A club area that was heated and could watch the game could be worth a LOT in donations.
As for the video board, they already upgraded it once, and I really don't feel the need to make it any bigger. I do wish it were HD, as the picture is just not that great (especially compared to what we have at the Stroh), but honestly there are so few replays or anything that get shown on there, I'm not sure what the point would be. If they were going to bring in more camera crews so they could start showing more replays on the board, I'd be all for it, but right now the board seems underutilized anyhow, so making it bigger isn't really gonna fix the real issue with it.
The real problem with the Doyt is what 137 mentioned...the infrastructure is HORRID for restrooms, concessions, entry into the game, etc.

Re: Buffalo fan's perspective of our facilities
I do believe this is the year when we hear about stadium renovation plans. The stadium per original design is very near end of life without renovations. The freeze thaw cycle of NW Ohio takes a toll, and the fan experience facilities ranging from food to luxury boxes are no longer adequate.

There is a "Stadium Club" above the press box on the west side. Haven't been up there for some time, but it used to be pretty nice.
Re: Buffalo fan's perspective of our facilities
Still is nice, but the problem is it's not as up-to-date as others. Keeping up with the Joneses, so to speak.factman wrote:There is a "Stadium Club" above the press box on the west side. Haven't been up there for some time, but it used to be pretty nice.

Re: Buffalo fan's perspective of our facilities
My idea is basically 1 step below that. $100 gets you a parking pass. $200 lets you buy in rows 10-25 in sections 13 and 15. $400 in rows 26+ in 13 and 15. Then give them access to an indoor area behind their seats with TVs, restrooms, and concessions. Similar to the Anderson Club. A mid level option for people who don't want to do a suite or seats inside the stadium club.MarkL wrote:Still is nice, but the problem is it's not as up-to-date as others. It may also get people sitting on both sides of the stadium. Want seats between the 40s and don't want to do the donation? Try sections 14 and 16.

Re: Buffalo fan's perspective of our facilities
Graduated 5 years ago, I want to say my senior year was the year they finished the Sebo Center and replaced some of the chairs/club seats with HIGHLIGHTER ORANGE seats. I'm shocked that virtually nothing has been done since. It would be great if they could replace/repaint our turf, and look into a permanent structure for the falcon club tents in the south endzone.
Maybe they could do something similar to Kent's Dix stadium for that open endzone that could give us a new, larger scoreboard and a nice looking area for the Falcon club.

And since they've talking about demolishing and rebuilding the bleachers since I was a freshman at bg, maybe something like WKU would make sense for us?

I just want faucets in the bathrooms that I don't have to hold open with one hand while I try to wash the other.
Re: Buffalo fan's perspective of our facilities
Tearing down the east side or west side and putting something like WKU pic above would be cool.

I love WKUs stadium. Perfect size for us and it looks good from the inside and out.

And the enclosed boxes that you see are named after former Falcon Flames, Jack and Jackie Harbaugh, former classmates of mine.

Yes...and hot water as well.AZZZZ wrote:I just want faucets in the bathrooms that I don't have to hold open with one hand while I try to wash the other.
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
