After beating UB Saturday, we have believe it or not a 4 game win streak against the Bulls. So that got me thinking about all the streaks vs other conference teams ...
Winning streaks
Akron: 5 games (2007, 2008, 2009, 2012, 2013)
UB: 4 games (2011 - 2014)
UMass: 3 games (2012 - 2014)
That team down south: 3 games (2011 - 2013)
Ohio: 2 games (2012- 2013)
EMU: 2 games (2012- 2013)
CMU: 1 game (2010)
Kent: 1 game (2014)
NIU: 1 game (2014)
Losing streaks
WMU: 3 games (2005, 2010, 2011)
That team up north: 4 games (2010 - 2013)
We have at least a one game winning streak vs every single east team. That naturally happens when you sweep the east schedule as we did last year. We certainly can do the same again this year.
I think there's not a game I want to win more than that team up north. I'm guessing the team feels the same right now. That 4 game losing streak is ugly. Flip side of the coin, I'm guessing Akron is pumped for a chance to end their losing streak against us. Similarly, Ohio probably has our game this weekend circled because not long ago they had a three game winning streak and had won four of five.
Also ... doesn't it feel good to have win streaks against 10 of 12 conference opponents? Not that long ago in 2010-11 we had losing streaks against just about everybody. It certainly has been a lot of fun seeing our team go from 1-7 in conference play to 8-1 with a championship win just a few years later.

Re: BG streaks vs MAC opponents
Interesting info, thanks for posting it. I also especially like how we have a winning record against every MAC school with the exception of Miami. But Toledo is closing in and sure has made up a lot of ground the last four years. I believe it's something like this:
Akron: BG leads 13-7
Ball State: BG leads 20-8-1
Buffalo: BG leads 8-3
Central Michigan: BG leads 22-18
Eastern Michigan: BG leads 25-11-1
Kent State: BG leads 56-19-6
Massachusetts: BG leads 3-0
Miami: BG trails 23-42-5
Northern Illinois: BG leads 11-7
Ohio: BG leads 38-25-2
Toledo: BG leads 39-35-4
Western Michigan: BG leads 31-17-3
Akron: BG leads 13-7
Ball State: BG leads 20-8-1
Buffalo: BG leads 8-3
Central Michigan: BG leads 22-18
Eastern Michigan: BG leads 25-11-1
Kent State: BG leads 56-19-6
Massachusetts: BG leads 3-0
Miami: BG trails 23-42-5
Northern Illinois: BG leads 11-7
Ohio: BG leads 38-25-2
Toledo: BG leads 39-35-4
Western Michigan: BG leads 31-17-3
GO BG!!!

The Whammy has certainly lost its relevance in recent years. As MarkL pointed out BG has won the last 3 in a row vs the Redhawks. If you go back to the past decade of games BG is 5-4 vs Miami. And its a rotten shame the MAC took away our matchup with them this year and next because we'd have another win virtually guaranteed this year, and probably next year as well unless Miami is a lot better in 2015 than they are this season.thewebboy wrote:There is a reason they call it the Miami Whammy.
What sucks is that they are starting to show some signs of life and are starting to lose games close instead of getting blown out. They might be competitive again by the next time we play them in 2016.

One streak we desperately need to break is our bowl game losing streak, which is now at four.

I assumed the game would return next year. With UMass leaving and not being replaced, there's no further need for this imbalance.
Re: BG streaks vs MAC opponents
Next year is the final year for UMass. And I could honestly see them being a player in the East next year. Whipple has them playing hard.AyZiggy97 wrote:bgsufalcon24 wrote:The Whammy has certainly lost its relevance in recent years. As MarkL pointed out BG has won the last 3 in a row vs the Redhawks.
