This why the MAC sucks....
It's the first Saturday in November and NO ONE is playing football today. Arrrrrrrgggh.......
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

Traditionalist! Just wait and see U of M vs. OSU is just years away from putting their game on a Tuesday night THEN you will take back this short sighted comment. Until then, go back to your silly tradition of watching college football today with the rest is this nation of non-visionaries!

I remember when the MAC played all Saturday games in November and the only game the conference got on national TV each year was the California Bowl.
I'd rather be here than there.

I remember when they came with cigarettes. Oh wait, that was my grandpa, not me.
Re: This why the MAC sucks....
This seems like a relevant place to drop this.....MAC commish basically redid the TV deal without the schools having any input.

I think that's a misinterpretation of what happened. The commissioner is saying that the conference did explain the provisions to presidents and ADs in group meetings.Falcon137 wrote:This seems like a relevant place to drop this.....MAC commish basically redid the TV deal without the schools having any input.

On the other hand, it is pretty clear that the conference did not share an actual copy of the contract with member schools in order to avoid making it a public record. So long as the only copies are in the conference offices, it probably is exempt from disclosure.
I understand the professor's frustration. I would guess the Big Ten and other conferences engage in similar tactics.

Honestly all the complaining about the mid-week games is old hat. No one was whining in the early 2000s when BG/Toledo/Marshall/Miami were ranked and getting national exposure they otherwise wouldn't get. Same goes for NIU last year. The MAC would be even more irrelevant if they didn't have the TV deal.

We didn't play that many midweek games back then....in 2003 we played two home games on Saturday in November...we played one midweek night game, against Miami. This phenomenon of playing ALL the games past November during the middle of the week is fairly new and open to being complained about all damn day as far as I'mconcerned

Fair enough. Its the only way the MAC is going to be able to get exposure in college football, which I'm all for. I think its great for the players to get their chance to get noticed on a national level and for the MAC to get some important conference games the attention they deserve. Its an inconvenience to go but I can remember plenty of weekend November games sparsely attended because the weather sucked or the opponent wasn't any good.Flipper wrote:We didn't play that many midweek games back then....in 2003 we played two home games on Saturday in November...we played one midweek night game, against Miami. Wasn't there some info released re: 675K per team PER SEASON when this was 1st announced? If true, it's a heck of a deal compared to practically paying our own way as the old contract read.
Education our Challenge, Excellence our goal. (look it up)
