MAC Championship Opponent

Not to get ahead of myself, first things first, the streak needs to end tomorrow night.

However, I was bored and was thinking of who we might play in the Championship. It is possible that there could be four 6-2 teams in the West, and I haven't taken the time (nor will I) to figure out who would advance if that occurred.

I was actually hoping the Rockets would win last week, because the only thing better than pounding them to end the streak tomorrow would be the chance to do it again for the MAC Title. The School Up North is not necessarily eliminated once we beat them tomorrow. Here is how it 'could' play out:

This week

NIU def. Ohio
BGSU def. UT
CMU def. WMU

NIU 6-1
CMU 6-2 (season is finished)
UT 5-2
WMU 5-2

The following week

UT def. EMU
WMU def. NIU

NIU 6-2 (def: UT)
UT 6-2 (def. WMU, CMU)
WMU 6-2 (def. NIU)
CMU 6-2 (def. NIU, WMU)

I included their head-to-head results above, assuming the predictions would be correct.

Obviously for the Rockets, their best hope is that Ohio defeats NIU tonight. I remember a few years back thinking about these situations for us getting to the Championship. I am so glad that won't be the case this year. We're in baby!!

Whoever gets there from the West, they will be meeting a Falcon team that finished 7-1 (9-3) and ready to be two-time Champions!!

BEAT TOLEDO!! (maybe twice)

The amazing thing is that I don't really consider any of those 5 game results to be that outlandish. NIU should beat Ohio, and Toledo will almost certainly beat Eastern Michigan. That leaves the other 3 games, which are all pretty much toss ups.

It's going to be a very interesting race down the stretch.

Northern Illinois needs to beat Western Michigan
Toledo needs NIU to drop one of their last 2 games
Western Michigan needs Toledo to lose to BG then beat NIU
Central Michigan needs to beat Western Michigan and needs Toledo and NIU to drop at least one

Give me NIU I guess. We've lost five in a row to Toledo and four in a row to WMU, and both teams have beaten us this year. I'll take my chances against NIU since we showed last year we can at least beat them.

We need to study what NIU does against ut....I mean, they've beaten them 5 or 6 straight.

We are very likely going to play Toledo again in the MACC. Toledo only has to beat EMU which they will easily do. NIU has to beat WMU on the road which is a much bigger challenge. If WMU wins that game, Toledo would win the tiebreak because they beat WMU head-to-head.

Basically, with the assumption Toledo beats EMU, it boils down to this: NIU gets in with a win over WMU, but if WMU beats NIU then Toledo gets in. Almost everything rides on the outcome of the NIU at WMU game at this point.

I agree, the MAC Championship will feel hollow if we can't beat Toledo to win it.

We already beat NIU at their best last year, and winning against WMU isn't as gratifying beating TSUN would be.

Our fanbase needs this rematch. If they would have caught the damn ball yesterday, this wouldn't even be an issue.

I want to see the Falcons get another shot at Toledo. For anyone who thinks we have been DOMINATED by them check this out.

Since 2007 BG is 3-5 vs Turdledo. No way to spin that other than we are on a 5 game skid. But BG has outscored them in that time period 208-167.

We are looking at a "Miami Whammy" a John Cooper led OSU vs. Michigan- 2-10-1 (Yikes)

This program is in a Funk with UT. We are not getting blown out. We are not getting out played.. We are not facing superior talent. We are facing some self-created misfortune and bad luck. In Rivalry games like these, the team that makes plays at crucial times wins, and this BG program simply is not doing that.

I can't think of a better way to get off the snide than to do it in the Championship game in front of a large crowd.

I can't wait to get this team inside with healthy running backs and solid QB play. Last night proved that UT's DB's COULD NOT handle our wideouts. Get these guys in Ford Field and look out. The defense played well enough for us to win that game last night (AGAIN)

So I say bring em on!

I doubt there is anyone in the program who does not want another shot.

Did you see Ronnie Moore on the sidelines last night after his first TD. That's the BG/UT rivalry.

Bring it to Ford Field!

It's the best rivalry in the MAC and a championship matchup will generate massive buzz

BG has never played UT in the MAC Championship. If it happens (and it likely will), it would be the biggest MAC Championship we've ever won (counting the MAC Championships before and after the championship game was added) if we win, or it would make for the most painful of losses adding to the longest losing streak in school history to them with the most riding on the game. "Winner Takes All" would certainly apply.

Does anybody get the feeling that if last night's game was played indoors instead of outdoors in snow, wind, and 20 degree temperatures that BG would've won that game handily?

I do.

That's why I want Toledo in the MACC. I feel our offense isn't a meteorological match with bad Northwest Ohio weather, and from the standpoint of strengths and weaknesses, the conditions really swung the game in favor of Toledo last night. If we play indoors, we probably hit some of those deep balls, putting Toledo behind and making it so they can't run the ball 50 times.

Make it happen. As Flipper said, PJ, row that damn boat!!

I do, too. Bring on Toledo. I like our chances in a rematch.
