Buyout for Bowling Green's Dino Babers included basketball gameBowling Green formally offered Babers its coaching position on Dec. 17 after Eastern Illinois had been eliminated from the playoffs. Babers' contract with Eastern Illinois had a buyout provision that stated he would owe an amount equal to his current base salary, a little more than $173,000, according to the school's general counsel, Robert Miller. As of Jan. 3, 2014, however, the buyout was due to expire. Babers would owe nothing for leaving.
A day after Babers signed to become Bowling Green's coach, the school's athletic director, Chris Kingston, signed an agreement to play Eastern Illinois in a men's basketball game at Bowling Green during one of the next three seasons and pay Eastern Illinois $70,000 within 30 days of the deal's execution, plus another $15,000 within 24 hours of the game's completion, according to documents obtained by USA TODAY Sports.
