Final Rankings

I think that at least one of the major polls will have a final ranking after all the Bowl Games are over. Maybe someone can verify this. Anyway, I took the Coaches Poll for my illustration.

The question is, where will Northern Illinois and BG be finally ranked? All of the ranked teams that bear on this question have finished their seasons. Here's how things stand with the teams at issue in the Coaches Poll.

18-Virginia finishes 8-4 with a loss to Fresno St., 37-34
19-Florida finishes 7-5 with a loss to Miami, 21-10
20-Pittsburgh finishes 8-4 with a loss to Utah, 35-7
23-West Virginia finishes 8-4 with a loss to Florida St., 30-18
25-Texas A&M finishes 7-5 with a loss to Tennessee, 38-7

Now, here's how other teams receiving votes did in Bowl Games.

26-Boston College won over North Carolina 37-34
27-Fresno St. won over Virginia 37-34
28-Oklahoma State lost to Ohio St. 33-7
29-Memphis lost to BG 52-35
30-Navy won over New Mexico 34-19
31-Purdue lost to Arizona St. 27-23
32-Northern Illinois won over Troy 34-21
33-Toledo lost to Connecticut 39-10
34-UTEP lost to Colorado 33-28
35-BG won over Memphis 52-35

I believe Virginia will remain in the Top 25. All others should drop out, although Florida, undeservably it seems to me, always seems to hang in there.

So, if 4 drop out, then I think Boston College, Fresno St., Navy, and Northern Illinois have a good chance to get in the top 25.

My guess is that BG will end up maybe 27th or 28th. They might be the only 9 win team that is left out of the Top 25 (not sure what UTEP's final record is). What hurt BG's chances most I think is Boston College's close win over North Carolina.

The edge BG might have is scoring the most points in any Bowl Game so far and Omar's super performance all year and in the GMAC Bowl.

By the way, Georgia's Greene had an interception yesterday so that should prevent him from overtaking Omar in the Passing TD/Interceptions ratio record for the season. Wasn't one other QB in the running to pass Omar?

I thought it was Stefan LeFors at Louisville, but it turned out the record was "With 30+ TD passes", and he ended up in the low 20's, so Omar keeps the "record".
