Was Urban responsible for Ty Willingham being fired?

I've been thinking about this for some time now. I remember that Lloyd Carr had some strong feelings about UM having three specific schools listed in his contract (and I don't think Lloyd sent UM and Shelley a Christmas card).

Notre Dame releases Willingham and goes after UM. UM says no and goes to Florida. Notre Dame has egg on its face and suffers a PR backlash.

So....was Urban Meyer responsible for Ty Willingham being fired?

Transfer:

I don't think it's a yes or no question (though I voted "yes" ), but I have to believe it played a very big role.

As someone who never fell for or understood the old Irish mystique, I have to smile and shake my head at the whole fiasco.

I don't think Willingham would have been released if they knew they were not going to get Meyer to be the head coach. I think he would have finished out his five years and then be gone.

I've got other opinions about the outgoing president, the incoming president, and the members of the Board of Trustees but since I am not an ND alum, I won't bother to share them.
