New ticket policy

I know someone alluded to a possible change in ticket pricing for football. Got an email today pretty much verifying it. Long drawn out email that said nothing in way of specifics, but told me that lots of folks would like to have my seats, ones that I've had for about 15 yrs or so.
I don't have a problem with a raise in prices as long as they're reasonable. I've felt we were underpriced for a long time honestly...for anyone who went to games at other MAC schools you know what I mean.
It will be interesting to see the actual pricing.

I paid over 40 dollars for a ticket last season to watch Missouri and Toledo play - 10 yard line. Seemed high

Agreed, 100%, 61.
No problem with this. BG season tickets have to be among the cheapest in all of college football. I predicted awhile back, the overall season ticket package price will remain the same as last season, but, with 1 fewer game. Guess we will find out soon enough.
This is figures to be one of the better home schedules in a long time. AAC favorite Memphis, rival Toledo, and then the next 3 best teams in the East, UMass, Akron, and Ohio.

So...we get what...10-15k a game and there are 'lots of folks' wanting your seats?
Marketing morons.

The e-mail actually never says anyone wants your seats. It basically states you have the best seats.
"I wanted to take this opportunity to bring forward a change that you will notice as a part of your season ticket renewal process. As a ticket holder sitting in the “premium” area of the Doyt Perry Stadium seating bowl (west side, in-between the 40-yard lines), you have access to a unique vantage point that is the envy of all spectators during the fall. Starting this year, you will notice a nominal increase in the price associated with these premium seats. Even as small as this price increase is, we felt it was our responsibility to communicate the purpose of this added cost in advance to our best customers."

Hats off to transparency and no surprise up-charges with the renewal paperwork.
Hats off to one of the best values in sports!

Actually...if you look at our attendance on a game to game basis, you will see that most of the people are on the west side of the Doyt and heavily packed into the middle. If that's where 61's seats are...there may very well be a lot of people who want them because that appears to be the only place people want to sit.

Yeah, the bigger issue is the number of games the fans in those seats get to see. Giving up a home game to play a third BCS team on the road (and one loaded with talent from the SEC that destroyed Iowa in their bowl game) remains inexplicable. That $1.2 million better be going straight back into the program that earned it.

Why was it inexplicable? I was under the impression it was the only option for a 12th game at the time it was scheduled.

BG will take that deal any day of the week, and twice on Saturday. That money will go a long way for a program like BG. Trust me if the AD could schedule 3 big money games a year he will do that in a heartbeat. You never know if we catch Tennessee looking ahead, we could sneak that one.

Well said...I think we can catch the Vols napping. We all know where we stand as a mid major, Group of 5 or whatever the hell they wanna call us these days. We don't get the $20 million bowl payouts and have to get funds somewhere. Yeah the sked is brutal but if we wanna be a player on the national scene, we need to beat teams like MD and Purdon't.
I've always sat on the West side between the 40's but in the last few years, have been heading over to the East side some of the time. Different vantage points and makes it fun. If I have to pay a few extra dollars, so be it. As others have said, you cannot beat the ticket prices at BG for football. I have no problem paying $25 a game instead of $18.

Actually you can and this has been a major bone to pick for me for years. I don't mind paying the current ticket prices because I'm a big fan of bg sports, but a casual fan in the area can get a helluva lot better deal just up the road. Ut continues to offer an awesome budget ticket plan for cheap season tickets that come with parking, food vouchers, and team shop vouchers.
All while we struggle to get fans to hoops and football. Anybody that is a casual fan if the sports and doesn't have an affiliation with either university would be a fool to choose bg. For the life of me I cannot figure out why we don't offer something similar.

Not to mention this year. The Memphis game goes head to head with UT vs Iowa State and 2 MAC games go head to head with each other. That's a tough sell in a small market like the Toledo area.

Brian,
Not sure if your criticism is totally justified...last I checked I DO get free parking as part of my season ticket package... No, we don't get anything special re: team shop, but even then, I recall getting a special " pre season" booklet, which includes a %off deal at bookstore, at Doyt or in the Union. That leaves only a concessions voucher missing from what you say is included by TU( sorry, but thats what we called them back in the day)
And based on most folks comments about the concessions, is that really a bad thing?
I recall, and some of you will too, that we used to get a free t-shirt...would much rather have the free parking.

There's always options in scheduling...just ask South Carolina State. They dropped us for a better game for them. If we wanted to we could pay another FCS team to do the same thing to somebody else.
