Magner drawing NFL interest

Post by Flipper »

Per the Insiders, Cole is getting some looks from the Steelers, Jaguars and Panthers. I think he'd make a fine NFL WR if he were to add 10-15 pounds of muscle

Manger will never be an NFL star. But he's the type of receiver that could be extremely valuable for a long time if he hooks up with the right team - one that can make regular use of a third receiver, etc.

I've seen Cole projected in the 6th and 7th rounds and also projected along the Janssen route of being picked up as an undrafted free agent. Scott Mruczkowski seems to be projected also as a day two guy, but possible much earlier on day 2 than Cole. Boy it would be fun to see two BG guys drafted this year.

I can see him being a Brian Brennen type receiver ala early 80's Browns. 3rd down and mid range possession go to guy.

Two other guys that come to my mind that Cole reminds me of in ways who had nice careers in the NFL as solid possession receivers are Tom Waddle and Ricky Proehl. I think Cole has a shot to land somewhere as these two did.

I have seen him compared to Dane Looker. He also has the potential to be a primo special teams player. Let's keep our fingers crossed...as we know, he's fighting the odds, but that where you start the fight, not finish it.

What???

Why are you guys so down on Cole? Saying things like he needs to gain another 10-15 pounds. Not necessarily. He's already at 196. Another 10 is all I see him needing. And gosh he's 6'2, good size for even the NFL. Someone mentioned Brandon Stokely , well he's only 5'10. Also think of Wayne Cherbet. He also is under 6'0. The main thing for Cole is to maintain good speed in the combines and camps.

I think 10 falls in the 10-15 range.

No, you see, in FalconBoy's world everything is base 6, so when he says 10 he really means 6 in base 10.

Wow that is quite a difference there. Another 0-5 pounds and we might have to start calling him fat ass. I thought you liked big men falconboy. Maybe he could put on 100-150 and be a good D lineman

I think someone picks up Cole

Post by BGSU99 »

I think Cole would make a good receiver in the NFL. He might not be the fastest guy on the field, but Cole knows how to get open and isn't afraid to make a big catch over the middle, get clocked, and still hang onto the ball. I will miss Cole wearing Orange and Brown next season, but thankfully for our football program, the tradition will continue ... only the names will change. Many of you have probably heard this saying and I believe it is starting to be the case at BGSU ... "Tradition Doesn't Graduate." It sure has been fun and a privilege to watch Cole play for four years. Seems like not that long ago he was a freshman, wearing #13, running for a big TD against Akron on the road, stiff-arming the Zip defender to get himself into the end zone. That's not to mention outracing the Northwestern defenders for the winning two-point conversion in Evanston in 2001. Maybe I should start a "Favorite Magner Memories" thread for those.
