Is it just me or have these guys (and gals?) been a welcome addition to our forum. Polar opposite of the "other" UT/TU.....

Agreed!
I'd say probably the most pleasant group of BCS conference fans we've encountered. Dunno if it's because Tennessee has been on a bit of a downswing lately or what, but quite pleasant.
Beats the living hell out of some of the OSU, etc fans that just come in here to tell us how we have no chance...

To that effect, see my earlier post in the thread, "TV for Tennessee game".

Been to about half of the SEC stadiums for games. Always pretty welcoming to opposing fans outside of the conference.

Although we are proud of our Tennessee football team and our university, it would be fair to say that we have known the ordeal of difficulty and struggle at near the bottom of the barrel. It is hard to have the classic conceited, trash-talk attitude when you and your team have have walked the humble path for so long. Trash talking does go on from Tennessee fans---but it is usually reserved for a few two-bit SEC b_stards who deserve it---

because of their own conceited, trash-talking ways.
Personally, as a result of being here, I hold BGSU and its fans in high regard. You are intelligent, well-educated, and cultured people who are actually capable of carrying on a civil conversation about a wide range of subjects. It is refreshing to say the least!!! Thank you!!!

Having lived in Vol country for several years now, I can definitely attest that the fans that have come to this site are very much indicative of the rest of the group. Naturally, with any school this large, there's a rare few obnoxious fans here and there, but most Tennessee fans are great people. I'm quite certain I couldn't have moved around Columbus with BGSU logos on my car and shirts this past week if we were playing osu without hearing several comments. Here in Knoxville, no problem.

FWIW, I attended UT some 46 yrs ago, in a special guidance counselor program one summer. My then baby daughter was picked up and hugged by male and female students as we walked across campus. Was especially surprised at the guys, but left for home w/ some good feelings about " southern hospitality".

And they have a team on the rise. This will be a difficult test for BG but I can't wait to see it unfold. A win over this team would be a BiG feather in our hat....
Looking forward to tailgating with some Vols fans as well....
GO FALCONS!!!!!!!!!
Game Notes

we are less than 24 hours from kick!!!!!! I wanted to post a couple of non-chest beating notes about the vols , since you guys don't know them as well as we do. First the good:
we think ( maybe prematurely) that our quarter back is a STUD. He is an aeronautical engineering major and a good athlete but he has only played 4 games ( and lost one). He is resoundingly humble as well, which I value as much as anything. He should make smart decisions and be fun to watch. our defense should also be pretty good, which is awesome cuz I have heard you guys run like a million plays per game.
and the bad:
our o-line is very suspect, they are all back for their second year which is awesome. what is not awesome is they did not play well their f; irst season, allowing a huge number of sacks, which brings me to the second point: if our qb gets sacked, he could be hurt. and if he does get hurt, none of us know for sure what we have behind him, other than its not Dobbs. Also, our best playmaker is benched because he apparently did something stupid, so we are playing some guys that may not have played otherwise.
Enjoy the game!!! If you guys knock us off, I will log back in and make sure to congratulate you guys ( after I drink heavily for the loss).

You fellers seem to be a good bunch as well.
Looking forward to a Tennessee win on the morrow but wish you well for the remainder of the season.

Wow, if you're typical of a Vol fan, what the heck are you doing in the SEC with the rest of those knuckle-draggers?

Seriously, I've always enjoyed my conversations with UT (Tennessee) fans. They don't seem to get caught up in that ridiculous "SEC" "SEC" stuff I hear from a lot of fans of other conference schools.
Being a Yankee, I have never understood how fans of rival schools can jump on the bandwagon and root for teams you, otherwise, spend 364 days of the year hating, loathing and despising. I could no more become a Toodle-de-do fan... -shudders violently-

I have a bit of that conference pride in the SEC, BUT I have an excuse, I am old. As a young man, I wanted to see my team on TV. But in the deep south, with only three networks and no ESPN, we were forced to watch what would bring the networks higher ratings, namely ^%%ing Notre Dame, Michigan, USC and Ohio State. It became self=fulfilling that these were the best teams because the better athletes went to schools that were on TV all the time. With the advent of cable and ESPN, our teams were finally on tv and we had the opportunity for good athletes to come to our schools and be on TV. We understood that conference brand mattered greatly for recruiting. I try to keep my sec support subdued, but I do want our schools to do well to keep the brand respected so that we can continue to recruit at a high level. One only has to look at the Rose Bowl, where we not allowed to play because we were not one of the two elite conferences the network liked. Now that we get to sit at the grownups table, it is incumbent on us to do so without being arrogant or boisterous.
