BCSschoools @ MAC schools
Oklahoma State @ Central Michigan and Michigan State is playing at Western Michigan tomorrow. Boy I'm looking forward to that game with Memphis.
Seems like other make schools are able to bring decent teams into their venues but we get Indiana and Maryland (next year I believe). Toledo has even got big name schools to come to the glass bowl, what are we doing or not doing to get these schools to come to BG.

Good question....things very well could change with Kingston. He is making it his mission to bring in bigger "names".

Re: BCSschoools @ MAC schools
I'm not sure if I even agree with this take, that BG isn't pulling in name schools to play at the Doyt. In the last 7 years we've pulled in Minnesota, Boise State, and Indiana. Those are some decently big names, and as you alluded to Maryland is on the near horizon.
Yes, I'd love to have Power 5 teams coming here every year but that's never going to happen. Truthfully every other year would be great, and if you look at the recent history we're not that far off from that now.
I do agree though, that some other MAC teams, most notably Central Michigan and Toledo, have done an extraordinarily good job in this department.

Dunno about cmu but ut definitely brings in larger attendance figures for all games than we do, and even moreso in the big games.
With that I would imagine they're buying the games at a loss, just to get them into the glass bowl.

Game in Mt. Pleasant last night had lots of empty seats. Could only attribute to the game in Utah. Not sure why else they would have stayed away.

That was very, very strange to see.zete wrote:Game in Mt. Pleasant last night had lots of empty seats. Could only attribute to the game in Utah. Not sure why else they would have stayed away.

This is pure speculation, and I have no idea if CMU and OSU are scheduled to play in Stillwater. Assuming there is an agreement to play at OSU, maybe CMU agrees to a smaller piece of the pie when they are the visitors.

They probably did a 2 for 1 or 3 for 1 deal. That's how we usually get those teams here.Falconian wrote:This is pure speculation, and I have no idea if CMU and OSU are scheduled to play in Stillwater. The Detroit Free Press has some insight on how Western Michigan and Central Michigan both got Michigan State to come play at their place. Basically, they will get a reduced fee for playing return games in East Lansing.

Maybe they stayed away because tickets were too much. Who knows?

It would definitely be nice to get a traditional powerhouse to play in Perry Stadium. Some of you will recall that we did the next best thing a few years back by luring Wisconsin to Cleveland Browns Stadium. I'm not sure the finances of that went so well; perhaps our athletic department is a bit more risk averse based on that experience. (On the other hand, that was under a previous AD, so who knows.)
Also, we lucked out and had a very highly-ranked Boise State team in Perry Stadium a few years back. This was really great... until kickoff. (Falcons lost 49-14.)
Honestly, I'm pretty happy having a Maryland, an Indiana, or a Minnesota come to our place now and again. These games fill the building up, more or less, and these are winnable games for us.

Re: BCSschoools @ MAC schools
Think some folks have forgotten than Missouri also came to our place several years back and got CREAMED. Also had Navy in, though perhaps not the current day version that gave a school from Columbus a hard time last yr. IIRC. so we HAVE had some " name" schools here.
My thoughts are, until we begin to draw crowds like we did in the 90's, it's gonna be hard to bring in these schools even w/ 2 for 1 deals.

Good point. Also worth a mention, I guess: Pittsburgh in 2000.Class of 61 wrote:Think some folks have forgotten than Missouri also came to our place several years back and got CREAMED. Pitt in 2000 was poorly attended by student body as I recall.

I would be great to have one Big Ten team in Perry every year. It would generate interest since most of those teams are in the region. Once in a "blue moon" is the way it is and probably always shall be.
