CPD says winner of Ohio/Akron will be MAC East Champ

Elton Alexander has done a prediction of the MAC with most of the non-conference schedules over now which I found interesting as it helps give a better idea over doing predictions in the preseason not knowing what you're likely to see. He picked the winner of the Ohio/Akron this weekend as the MAC East Champion. He went on to add that BG's defense isn't good enough, that the late-season cold weather will hurt BG's offense, and that teams like Ohio and Akron have the defenses to go against BG's offense. He picked Toledo to win the West and for UT to play the winner of the OU/UA game in the MACC.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that if teams like Tennessee had issues stopping the BG offense, Ohio and Akron certainly aren't going to magically be able to employ a stifling defense to stop the numerous playmakers BG has.
This seems like an attempt for Mr. Alexander to tout himself if he's right and simply shrug it off if he's wrong since everyone in the media picked BG to win the East anyways. Of course, he's made himself out to be a buffoon before so I take his opinion with an extremely small grain of salt.

Reminds me of his prediction last year.
2. Easy street: The Akron Zips now have an easy stroll to the MAC East title. With the Falcons declawed, and Eastern Michigan, UMass and Miami joining BG as home turf cupcakes, even if the Zips lose an Oct. 18 game at Ohio, it is doubtful they will lose another league game this season.

Akron finished 3-5 in the MAC.

Oh Elton...how soon you forget about 2014.
CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Five things I think about the Mid-American Conference divisional football races after coach Dino Babers confirmed Wednesday that defending MAC champion Bowling Green has lost sophomore starting quarterback Matt Johnson for the season to a hip injury.

Season-ending loss of Bowling Green QB Matt Johnson leaves MAC division races wide open

For some reason Alexander never seems impressed w/ BGSU. And what makes this odd is that he wrote the articles on the Tenn. and Md. Games.
We can all see his comments on BG defense...understandable to a point. Yet he's touting Akron/ Ohio winner. OU has definitely looked good, though their sched. Doesn't come near our preseason. Akron has a solid Def., a Fresh. QB who has boosted them, but a rather weak non conf. Sched.
Guess we'll see.

BG will sweep the east for the 3rd straight year and do it easily. I don't care what you think of the BG defense, no team in the East is keeping up with the BG offense. I will be surprised if, Buffalo, UMass, Akron, Kent, and Ohio even keep it close.
The last 3 years BG has beat Ohio by a combined score of, 106-27. Akron....82-34. BG hasn't won the East the past 2 years. They have absolutely dominated it.

I like our chances, too, but the East has improved. Ohio, in particular, will be a challenge. They beat Marshall and came close against Minnesota. That's a decent football team. The other teams in the East have all had their moments, too.
The Falcons will need to earn every win.

I agree. The East is much improved over last season. I still think the West is still stronger but it won't be as tilted as it was last season. Let's face it, BG was a decent team last season but primarily won the East because the rest of the division was below average. But while BG went undefeated vs the East last year, we certainly didn't dominate the rest of East teams. In fact, we had to grind (yes, grind not find in this case) like hell to get past almost all of them. We needed a late fumble recovery vs UMass when they were driving for the game-winning TD and BG held on to win by 5 in the MAC opener, we easily could have lost to Buffalo in a game we trailed by 5 with just over 2 minutes to go and survived by winning by just 1, we only led Akron 6-3 in the 3rd quarter before a fumble recovery for a TD gave us some breathing room, and a 1-win Kent State team trailed us by only 3 midway through the 4th quarter. We had to fight for each of these wins, nothing came easy with them. The important thing was we found ways to win all of these games, but we didn't dominate those teams by any stretch of the imagination. That sad, I do think BG is a better team this year, but I feel the same about the rest of the MAC East too.
