I think that's really well deserved. Memphis has one of the top offenses in the nation, and Toledo looks like they are very strong on both sides of the ball.
Nothing would make me happier than to see Toledo come into the Doyt 10-0. That would give us the chance to end our rivalry hex in the biggest way imaginable.

I'm hoping for the same thing. I'm pulling for Toledo to win out all the way until the BG game. Our guys want to end the longest streak in the series history? How about against an undefeated and ranked team at home? It doesn't get any better than that.bgsufalcon24 wrote:Nothing would make me happier than to see Toledo come into the Doyt 10-0. Should that be the outcome and we don't trip up before then...that would put us into the top 25 too. 9-2 with the schedule we've had would almost assuredly get that done. Long way to go before then obviously, but that's the dream scenario.BGSU33 wrote:I'm hoping for the same thing. I'm pulling for Toledo to win out all the way until the BG game. EDIT: I just looked at this week's CBS rankings, and BG actually fell from #52 to #70 despite winning on Saturday. Based on that I have a funny feeling that we might fall again this week regardless of the result against Massachusetts. That's just sad. Buffalo isn't good, but they're not one of the worst teams in college football. CBS obviously must think they are to have our SOS drop to the point where a whole bunch of 2-3 P5 schools leapfrogged us this week. Admittedly, Tennessee's struggles and Purdue and Maryland both losing this week probably didn't help.

Rankings are a product of scheduling. Memphis has played FCS Missouri State and Kansas thus far while Toledo had a FCS game at home that was cancelled, a Sun Belt team at home, a low-resource P5 team at home and a mediocre SEC opponent that was dumb and arrogant enough to overlook them. With the exception of the Toledo/Arkansas game, both teams scheduled wisely enough to put themselves in a position to be undefeated and rise in the polls.

Oh yeah, like BG would be ranked so much higher had they been 4-1 with an fcs win instead of being 3-2 with a loss to TN. Sure. If you really believe that then I have beachfront property in Regina to sell you.
All kidding aside I don't see where Toledo and BG's schedules are different at all. UT faced a pair of P5 schools including 1 from the SEC. The difference is that they beat their SEC opponent and we didn't.

Re: Toledo and Memphis both ranked in Top-25
My argument was presuming we'd have won our FCS home game and used the momentum of 2-0 to get over the hump against Memphis (a better opponent that anyone Toledo has played IMO). That would put us with a 0 in the loss column as well.
The 2014 conference records of Toledo's crossover opponents are 9-14. BG's are 17-7. Combine that with giving us a home game when the students are on break and it stands to reason that someone in the MAC office in Cleveland doesn't care for BG very much.
According to Phil Steele, in non-conference games where BG has been the underdog between 2012-2014 the margin is +91. For UT it's +74. NIU is even weaker at +31. Playing an easier schedule matters and the rankings darlings have figured that out.

Memphis would beat tsun by 7-10 points on any field. They are that good. tsun looks solid, no question. But their schedule hasn't been that tough overall. Iowa State missed a FG at the end of regulation that would have won the game. Arkansas imploded 5X inside the Red Zone. Stony Brook, Arkansas State, Ball State and Kent State...
I fully believe if tsun played our schedule this season thru 6 games, they would be no better than 4-2.

Arkansas threw for 400+ yards on them. That bodes well for us. There is something to be said for keeping them out of the end zone and winning the game but things bounced their way.Falconfreak90 wrote:Memphis would beat tsun by 7-10 points on any field. Re: Toledo and Memphis both ranked in Top-25
I'm acting in a play at our church this fall...i play a big crazy man...I know...go figure...any way, I'm surrounded by a knot of UT slappies. I think I found the only 5-6 people in town who actually care about UT over OSU. I spent the better part of last night's run through arguing with them over UT's defense. This one kid actually thinks their defense will "shut us down". So I told him to come see me in two weeks after Fronhapfel throws for over 350 on them at Umass. I thought he was going to have a stroke. They won't be able to cover Sharpe...we have a four or five options that are every it as good as Sharpe.
I am so looking forward to this year's game...

Re: Toledo and Memphis both ranked in Top-25
You would think our players will be quite hungry to beat them, but then again I said that the last 2 years.
Outside of a blizzard or a monsoon, no MAC defense shuts us down. Not going to happen. Can we shut them down enough to win is what it comes down to.

What is tsun's bread and butter on O? Running the ball. With the exception of TN, we have contained if not stuffed teams' running games. Teams have to throw the ball 60X a game just trying to stay in the game. If you throw out the TN game when we gave up 399 rushing yards, the other 5 opponents are averaging 112 yards a game rushing against our D.
There is no D in the MAC that will stop our O....maybe slow it down here and there but when it clicks like it did against UMass? Sheet. I, too, cannot wait to take out 5 years of frustration on those asshats.
