BG called out on Gameday again

Talked about how UMass has faced some decent defenses this year and how "Bowling Green has one of the worst defenses in the country."

Man I wish this kind of stuff would fire up that unit. The other thing is clearly a lot of people (media and football know it alls) aren't buying into this team. Despite putting up big offensive numbers and Power Five wins, it doesn't seem like anybody is buying into us. You clearly get the idea that people are waiting for us to fall and aren't buying into anything outside of our offense. And I can't say I don't blame them in a lot of ways.

For what it's worth, the guy picked UMASS +13.5.

That said, I'm curious to know if we'll ever have enough depth to play great defense consistently. I'd imagine we lead the NCAA in plays of 40+ yards and our time of possession can't be too great. Either way, I hope Babers sticks around and doesn't jump at the soon to be open Maryland or Purdue jobs if offered.

UMASS +13.5 is probably a good bet.

One of the worst defenses in the country just held an offense to 30 rushing yards. They didn't even bother trying to set up a balanced offense on us. They knew they could only pass, and frankly they pretty much hit their average in passing against us.

I like getting the publicity. I like being underestimated. Maybe those guys will get the point soon.

There is no question that the defense lags far behind the offense. The reality is they give up a ton of yards but they seem to make enough plays to be effective. Yesterday they only gave up 24 points. Special teams gave up a kickoff return and the late Umass TD was late in the 4th with subs in in both sides. If this defense holds teams to 24 points that's all this offense needs from them to be successful and win. Now, can they do it against Ttun and Western Michigan? I don't know. But at least they have 3 more games to improve before those two match ups.

The fact that ESPN mentioned us is a positive. Picking UMass to cover with 13.5 points would have fit many of our own predictions in another thread. I don't see that as an insult. I see our margin of victory as a positive given the point spread.

We can argue if the 2013 team is better or not than this year's team. However, one thing is certain, this team will get more press coverage because casual football fans love big offensive numbers over small defensive numbers.

By the way I'm not suggesting this team is better or worse, that remains to be seen IMO. Being an old linebacker, I struggle to enjoy this system but I do not deny it can be successful, especially against some P5 teams. Its easier to build an offense that can score on P5 teams than build a defense that can shut down P5 teams.

That same D held Purdue to 77 yards rushing on 38 carries. yeah, we give up big #'s in the passing game. We are very thin right now in the secondary and have new LB's this year. Who, BTW, are stepping up nicely. Locke, Greene and Valdez look solid.

UMass threw the ball 61 times, UB 59. Teams know they cannot run on us and attack thru the air. F the naysayers...the D is better than last year and just needs to keep improving every week. We all knew with all the new faces on D (and returning players kicked off the team), it would be a struggle. Let tsun get all the glory and we'll keep doing our thing.

62 points....that is what ND hung on UMass. Also, for the season, TOP is almost dead even between BG and the opposition. 29:45 for BG, 30:15 for opponents. Yesterday, we held the ball for 22 min in the 2nd half. The more we run the ball, the better...another 200+ yard day yesterday.

Just keep winning.
