Western @ NIU

Post by Falcon137 »

Western down 14-3 midway through the 2nd.

A NIU win would mean all they need to do is beat Ohio next week to advance to Detroit for what seems like the 25th straight year.

It's been all WMU since then. Broncos now lead 19-14.

Boy we've had everything in the last quarter or so...deep touchdown passes, lots of penalties, missed 2pt conversions and questionable coaching to go for them in the first place, not fielding kickoffs, blocked field goals...etc. This game is crazy.

NIU leads 20-19 with about 8 minutes remaining. GO HUSKIES!!!

EDIT: WOW, NIU goes 90+ yards in less than a minute. 27-19 Huskies

Huskies win.

A victory over the Kitties next Tuesday sends the Huskies to Detroit for the rubber match.

NIU hangs on. Looking very much like it's going to be BG vs either NIU or Toledo now. If NIU beats Ohio they're in.

I would not be surprised to see Ohio knock off NIU next week. OU has been playing much, much better the last few games since BG knocked them around and NIU hasn't looked all that impressive.

One thing I'm not happy about here is the fact that Northern Illinois is playing their final game 3 days before Toledo does. That's a major screwjob to Toledo.

There's no reason whatsoever that all conference games on the final week of the season shouldn't be played on the same day. In fact, they should all start at the same time too just so everything happens in real time and teams can't base decisions on what has already transpired.

Maybe that means you only get 3 weeks of midweek Maction instead of 4, but you screw around with the integrity of the divisional races by having games on different days in the final week. It hasn't affected the East the last few years because BG has clinched the division before the final week, but the fact that NIU plays on Tuesday next week is a huge advantage and that's not right.

How is this a disadvantage for Toledo?

True but NIU is the defending champ and knows how to win these games.

NIU has beaten good football teams....OU? Not so much. With a MACC birth on the line, I'll be shocked if OU stays within 10.

OU with a healthy Sprague will be able to move the ball on NIU, question is how consistently? NIU also only gets six days to prepare which may be a factor...we'll see.

I'm rooting for a Toledo rematch. I posted in another thread that another NIU/BG MACC isn't appealing to me.
