Not only does the trophy look look silly, the name of this rivalry is pathetic. Battle of I-75??? It epitomizes a complete lack of effort to come up with something creative by those responsible. A horrible, unoriginal and simply boring name. How people came up with and agreed on that name is beyond me. Did they meet at McDonald's for lunch and hatch the idea over value meals? It screams no one cared enough to put any bit of thought into it.MarkL wrote:Tangentially, does anybody besides me think the I-75 trophy is silly? It looks like a generic trophy with no real history. A trophy just because.
For a new trophy with real history behind it,check out the Minnesota / Nebraska trophy .... http://www.sbnation.com/college-footbal ... air-trophy
Sounds like Toledo people came up with it thenBGSU33 wrote:Not only does the trophy look look silly, the name of this rivalry is pathetic. Battle of I-75??? Toledo people don't want the Big Mac value meal! They want a Big Mac, Medium fries, and a medium soda. Quit trying to push your value meals on them! They know better than to fall for that.BGFalconfromCincy wrote:Sounds like Toledo people came up with it thenBGSU33 wrote:Not only does the trophy look look silly, the name of this rivalry is pathetic. I like this idea. Something with some meaning.Beaker wrote:The I-75 has got to be the lamest such trophy out there and is down right embarrassing .
Doing away with the Peace Pipe trophy in the name of political correctness was absurd and if it was such an offensive symbol, then there should have been a ceremony where it was burned to ashes, so as to have it's scourge removed from the Earth forever.
Unless it would be offensive to frogs, snakes, mosquitos or swamp monsters, I always thought they should have called it the Battle of the Great Black Swamp, or the Black Swamp Trophy, or something as such.
The following is quoted from Wikipedia:
"The impassibility of the swamp was an obstacle during the so-called Toledo War (1835–36); unable to get through the swamp, the Michigan and Ohio militias never came to battle."
Had the Black Swamp not existed, Ohio and Michigan may have come to blows in the battle over Toledo and if that had happened, Ohio may well have won the battle, which would have led to Michigan having been forced to take Toledo within it's borders.
Given the geographical and historical significance of the Great Black Swamp, it's a no-brainer that we re-name this game and trophy.

An orange barrel or construction sign would offer more then the current trophy.
