So NIU was the tie break winner, anyone know why?

Combined records head to head, they and WMU were 2-1. So you eliminate Toledo and CMU and do H2H again, and NIU beat WMU.

At least Toledo can still claim a MAC title. LMFAO!

Thanks to victories by Western Michigan, Central Michigan, and Akron today, it appears extremely likely that the MAC will have 7 teams in bowls this season:
Toledo - 10-2
Bowling Green - 9-3
Northern Illinois - 8-4
Ohio - 8-4
Akron - 7-5
Western Michigan - 7-5
Central Michigan - 7-5
An 8th team, Buffalo, could get to 6-6 by beating Massachusetts this evening, but they are losing at halftime. I think they would be unlikely to be invited anyway unless there is not a surplus of qualified teams. Regardless of how that turns out, you have to say that this was an extremely up year for the MAC as a whole.
The MAC, like many conferences, is usually helped by being somewhat top heavy, or at the very least having 2 or 3 teams at the bottom (like EMU and Miami) who simply can't beat anyone and won't steal victories from the teams in mid table. The biggest problem the conference had from 2006 through about 2010 was that there was a lot of parity in the league and thus a lot of teams finishing 5-7 or 6-6. Things are much better this way, and I think given the conference's success in OOC games this season, that bowl season should result in at least some wins if not a majority depending on what the matchups are.

I think Toledo finished 9-2, not 10-2.

That must be a tough division if 66.67% of its teams are good enough to finish in first place. Is this like a politically correct kids' league where everyone gets a participation trophy?
