Reports surfacing this afternoon that Babers is expected to be hired by Syracuse sometime this weekend.

@JWernerScout: Dino Babers reportedly has talked to a lot of schools this week. Seems intent on leaving Bowling Green, even for less than "ideal" situation.

@DanWolken: Chris Ash has pulled out of the Syracuse search according to a person with knowledge of the situation. Clears the way for Dino Babers.

While he's likely gone after Friday and it could totally be to the 'cuse, let's not forget that Babers to UCF was a done deal 3 days ago. People love to tweet things they can't back up because it grabs attention. I don't take twitter reports that seriously.

True, however Dan Wolken works for USA Today and typically doesn't report things that aren't factual.

I wouldn't read too much into this. If Dino has decided he is ready to move on, I think many of us can respect that. His decision to do so isn't a statement about BGSU.

Bowling Green was a great opportunity for Dino Babers, and it will be a great opportunity for the next guy.

Oh, I don't blame him. Just a blunt way to put it, for both Syracuse and BG. Guy is 54(?) you have to go make your money when you can.

Wolken is about as credible as they come.

This just is a bad situation for the team....I don't blame Dino, I just don't think we're going to be prepared for this game. We may have the talent advantage to overcome it, but if I lived in Vegas I'd take NIU and the points.

I think his staying put and being adamant in saying he was focused on the title will be a rallying point for the team. He's also closed practices to the media...which further limits.outside issues.

12 points is a lot for a title game, but I'd take us...

Syracuse might work out for him. Don't have to worry about the weather for all home games. It's not an impossible place to win either. Syracuse use to be decent.

Yep..the Dino Dome would be a great place to run that offense....

NBC Sports is reporting that Babers will be announced as Syracuse coach after the MACC.

Hi Guys,
Syracuse alum here. Longtime fan of the Falcons as the coaching incubator of CFB. Amazing who has coached at BG.
Many of us have been upset with SU admin for the past 15 years for coaching hires and facilitates. We have a new AD from Boise State and we are hoping he gets it. We have upgraded all facilities including an indoor practice facility. The only remaining piece to our puzzle is the right coach.

We are huge fans of Dino and think that he would be perfect to run his offense in the dome (which is about to undergo a huge renovation).

The word is we are probably going to (or have) offer Dino $2+ million for 5 years. Hopefully, we won't lose him to UVA or someone else.

I know this sucks for BG as we lost Doug Marrone fo the Bills three years ago just when the program was headed in the right direction. Rooting for you to get a solid replacement. Anybody on staff that might get promoted?

All of us will be watching Friday and rooting for the Falcons.

BTW we have a great fan board at syracusefan.com welcome to all.

Go Falcons!

Thanks for stopping by!

We understand that life as a productive mid-major program means losing coaches to larger schools, it's sadly the nature of the business. We all knew this day was coming, especially this season after defeating two P5 schools and winning another East division title.

Many of us were upset after Urban Meyer lied through his teeth in 2002 about wanting to stay. In 2013, there were rumblings about Dave Clawson leaving but ultimately the team stayed focus to win the first MAC title for the school since 1992. We understood why he left. We've been impressed with Dino's honesty through this process as we truly believe he has the best interest of BG football at heart. He wants to go out a champion and leave a solid foundation for whoever succeeds him, much like the opportunity he was given when he took over for Clawson.

Dino's offense will translate well to the Carrier Dome, however I will caution that if there is a lack of skill players at key positions, the first year or so under his guidance may be a bit rough. His offense is complex and requires an intelligent QB to run it...if you tune in on Friday, you'll see how efficient Matt Johnson is at running things and it's truly his first year in the system after getting hurt last season.

As for anyone on the staff who might get promoted...I highly doubt it. Sean Lynch, one of the OCs is 29. Kim McCloud, Babers' right hand man will likely go with him, although I suspect McCloud will coach the bowl game. Our AD Chris Kingston has shown that he's willing to look outside the current regime to find the best fit for the program. Some people have mentioned Everett Withers at James Madison and he's certainly an interesting possibility. I think Kingston will ultimately take his time in finding a successor. BG has become a desirable program which has now established a winning culture and has the chance to win two conference titles in three years. No matter the outcome, the program is going to be in good hands with a lot of talent returning next season.

Hey jb,
I understand that Dino has been insistent on focusing on the MAC Championship game. He really want to give BG a going away gift. His agent apparently has been handling negotiations.

Dino says it will take until midpoint of the second season for the system to roll in. We are all prepared for that. We have a very good freshman QB who is a dual threat, but is also a very good passer, especially accurate long. We also have a Junior that has a cannon for an arm but can't run. I suspect one of those two will be serviceable.

We also have some good young backs and a great punt returner. We are weak at WR, which will be a problem.

Good luck Friday.
