MAC is one play away from being 4-2( OU game). Biggest surprises? The two teams who played in champ. Game were BLOWN OUT! At least NIU. had legit reason... Playing 3rd string QB vs Boise.... Our excuse? Worst played game of year... Disappointing, but pathetic.

I'd be interested to see the real attendance on all these bowl games....even the ones with the P5 teams so far the stadiums look 1/4 full. At some point this stuff needs to be regulated a bit more.

I agree. OU let that one get away. I'm not surprised one bit that NIU was killed, they're a shell of the team they were at midseason. I was really disappointed in BG. I wasn't surprised that we lost, but to be destroyed like that?? Shut out 35-0 after halftime, 79 total yards of offense, MJ losing two fumbles inside our 15. Could it have been any worse?? Of our 4 losses, the Toledo and Georgia Southern were horrible because everything just seemed to go wrong in both of them. Tennessee flat out beat us, and we were right there with Memphis but came up short and that one stung. But our last two losses to UT & GSU were so unlike how we played most of the season.

Is it more of how we played or who we played? I mean who did we really beat this year? Two Big 10 wins against the two worst teams in their conference this year. Then you beat Buffalo and UMASS two terrible teams. Our best stretch we beat Akron, Kent, OU, and Western....3 of those 4 wins were against decent competition. Although OU was hurt in several key spots again when we played them. Then we beat Ball State, terrible team....In the championship we beat NIU whose QB couldn't throw it 10 yds down field. You play who the schedule dictates, but of our games this year we really had 5 quality opponents maybe 6.

Tennessee- loss
Memphis- loss
Akron (maybe)- win
Western- Win
Toledo- loss
GA Southern- loss

2-4.....if OU was healthy I'd give you that one too. I mean the other games we were beating really bad college football teams. Including NIU in the championship with all their injuries. Out of all our wins, Western was the only really good win we had. Maybe the GA Southern game wasn't as big of a suprise as we thought.

Just going on memory, its the good rushing teams that give us fits. Generally, when we have difficulty stopping an opposing teams offense, its their rushing game that dominates us. Tennessee, Toledo and Ga Southern this year. Wisconsin, 2 years of Indiana (despite outscoring them once), Toledo over and over again. Pittsburgh etc........

However, for a MAC team, any time we beat a P5 team its a good win. So yes Purdue and Maryland are bottom tier B10 teams but still good wins for BG. But overall I agree with you, we feast on a lot of bad teams.

But, that does not excuse the 2nd half destruction we saw the other night. I fully expected Ga Southern to move the ball up and down the field but I thought BG could so the same. First half went as expected but that second half was terrible.

BG gets behind.
BG tries to get it all back in one play.
BG goes 3 and out or turns the ball over.

Panic mode sets in any time this team gets behind. They suddenly go away from what works just because they are losing by a score.

Good luck to CMU today. This was one of the matchups I wish BG had instead, only because it was against a Big 10 team, and we all know we did well against them this year. I would have loved to have played either Minnesota or Boise State out of the MAC bowl opponents.

Detroit and a Big Ten/ MAC match-up is always appealing. It is the way the Motor City Bowl was originally presented. Minnesota is probably better than Maryland and Purdue.
Central made it a game.

Yeah, the MAC/Big Ten matchup only happened a few times, BG vs Northwestern being one of them. CMU had a costly drop late that hurt them but played a good game.

Toledo, Western, and Akron all represented themselves well and have the bowl victory to help with recruiting.
Still can't believe how embarrassing our game got...our slogan for this year should have been...."Falcon Fast (unless you are a decent team)" or "When the going gets tough....we pack it in as Falcon Fast as possible"

It seems as if some of our fans dismiss any win our football team gets as a win over a bad team. As evidence, some seem to point to the fact that the Falcons won the game, therefore the opponent could not really have been so good.

An argument can be made that Western Michigan, Ohio, Akron, Northern Illinois, Purdue, and Maryland were all decent teams. For those who insist that each and every one of these wins was over a bad team -- I guess I just don't understand the negativity.

The Falcons went 10-4 this year, including 2-0 in Big Ten play. Best season we've had since 2003 or 1992. The loss in Mobile doesn't really change that for me.

SF,

There is a certain negativity around here whenever games don't go the way we hoped. I still think the season was a BiG success...MAC Title, 2 wins over the B1G. People seem to forget we played 7 games out of 12 in the regular season on the road as well.

All I have to do is look down I 75 and see how badly Miami continues to struggle. Could be a whole lot worse.

People love to complain. It was an extremely successful season and winning the conference championship means more than a bowl game in Alabama could ever.

Calm down it was a joke....
however, I do think bowl games should hold some level of importance....getting smoked by a 3rd place Sun Belt team shouldn't be acceptable. If BG is going to spend money to send the team to a bowl game, then I expect a certain level of effort. I think the players and coaches didn't prepare the way they needed to and the result was embarrassing. It isn't a glorified exhibition....if that is the way we are going to treat the game, then turn down the invite and stay home.

That was an ugly loss in Mobile, no question.
