With the very unfortunate news of Roger Lewis leaving BG early for the NFL, the door has now been completely swung open for Robbie Rhodes to step through and make an impact at WR next year. We were very deep at WR this past season. But we're losing two starters in Lewis and Burbrink that will be extremely though to replace. Rhodes entered college a few years listed as one of the best WR's in the entire nation. This past season he only had 3 receptions all year. That's only 3 more than I had. Of those 3 catches, he fumbled one of them away when he was chased down from behind and stripped going to the ground. However, he did score a TD at Maryland which was essentially his lone highlight of the year. Although, I also remember him laying some guy out on a nice block in a game (can't remember who we were playing) and it helped spring BG for a big play. He also made headlines in the offseason for all the wrong reasons. But the bottom line is this - now is the time for him to step up and do what he can do. He won't have to shoulder the load by himself with guys like Dieter, Moore and Redding returning, but he's also going to have to have more catches than you can count on one hand for the season. He needs to be doing that every game. I'm willing to chalk up last year as a learning curve for him, but if he indeed does have the kind of talent as he appears to have on paper, now is when he's going to need to show it. If an unheralded true frosh like Scott Miller can step in and play right away and contribute, then so too should a former high school All-American who was one of the best in the country at his position, who has played one season and Baylor and another at BG. Now is your time Robbie Rhodes. Let's see what you can do!
