Wow...that sounds ugly. I hate to hear this kind of story no matter WHAT school is involved.
He promised to return with his football players friends for revenge. And that's exactly what happened. According to witnesses about 15-20 UT football players arrived at the party just before one this morning. A fight broke out, several windows were broken and at least three people were hurt. One of the victims lost a lot of blood and required surgery. No arrests have been made but police have several suspects. Most suspects are members of the university's football team.

It was be interesting to see how Big Tommy handles this one. Basically, just a lot of young people drinking too much and things get out of hand. Not an unheard of situation. But with guys in the hospital, there could be serious charges.

A broken bottle would be considered a weapon if handled with that intent. I hope it was just a shoving match that broke glass.

After thinking about this a little, the part that disturbs me is that it was somewhat premeditated. If all these guys were at a party somewhere and someone starting shooting off their mouth and it lead to an altercation is one thing. But it appears that one of the players left to go get his friends so that they could come back and get into a fight. The only reason for all the football players to go to this party was to protect their friend by beating up the other three guys. Can't wait to see what kind of spin Amstutz can put on this truly ugly situation.

I agree with you WH. This looks pretty ugly for the boys up north.

On a more positive note, ONLY 290 hours and 36 minutes til kickoff in Norman!!

I really don't think we can "Toledo-bash" over this type of thing (glad no-one has)...this is just bad and sad. It DOES sound pre-meditated and if the "broken bottle" was used as a weapon, it could easily be an attempted murder case. Wow....
From the Blade:
UT football coach Tom Amstutz spoke yesterday to the players about the incident, Paul Helgren, assistant athletic director for media relations, said. “Coach Amstutz is taking this very seriously. He has spoken to several members of the team. He was trying to ascertain who was involved.”
Coach Stutz could end up being the least of their worries...

Any truth to the rumor that charles sharon robbed a pizza delivery driver and will face felony robbery charges.

I heard from excellent sources three weeks ago that police were looking at him and another person in a case involving a pizza delivery guy.

The way it was explained to me, it wouldn't have been a felony because of the small amount of money involved. Also, from what I was told, police wondered if the pizza delivery guy was actually an active participant in whatever crime may have happened (or didn't happen).

But I'm not aware of any charges having been filed. For all I know, police have cleared Sharon, who has been practicing with the team.

I'm prepared to assume Sharon has been cleared until I hear otherwise -- and I think that's probably the safest route for all of us.

I agree this should not be a reason to bash Toledo (we have other material for that). This is a serious situation and, as someone else noted, quite sad, if true.

I hope that this stays in the news and doesn't fade into oblivion.

I'm sorry, but this Rocket fan is sick! Posted in the above thread by "blue blood":

"Actually, forgive me for making this statement, but does anyone else find it intriguing that 1/5th of the football team came together to this party to back their buddy up? In an awfully twisted way, that sounds like team unity to me - which is a good sign! Hopefully no one is injured too seriously. It doesn't sound like anyone really was critically injured to me. I've been in a hospital all summer long, so I have a few clues as to what is bad and what isn't - if the dude was discharged yesterday, he's in pretty good condition. "

Not exactly the "team unity" most programs look for. Why am I not surprised fans are trying to turn this into a positive?
