The 2016 football schedule has been released. I like this schedule. We play Toledo early in the MAC season. Good weather. We end with 2 home games and really 4 straight games we should win. Do not play Central or Western rather we play Miami and Eastern. No reason we shouldn't repeat in the MAC East.

4 out of 5 on road from 10/8 on... Is NOT gonna be easy, and Mike is right... Very tough road schedule overall.

Seems like we lose our big games at home anyways.

Does BGSU post future schedules anymore?

I've seen it reported that Bowling Green will host South Dakota in 2017 and play at Illinois in 2020. Odd that the university hasn't actually announced these things.

This is going to be our biggest test in the MAC in several years. Our fate in the MAC is going to be decided early on in the back-to-back games at Ohio and at Toledo. I said it each of the last two years and I'll say it again, the winner of the BG-OU game is going to win the MAC East. It's boiled down to that in each of the last two previous seasons in 2014 and 2015, and it'll happen again. Mark my words. In each of the past two seasons, BG edged out OU by a game (had BG lost to OU, OU would have won the tiebreaker each time) and it sent BG and not OU to Detroit both times. If we lose to Ohio, it'll cost us the MAC East. And if we lose to Ohio and if we also follow that up with a loss to Toledo (I know, what do I mean "if?"), we for sure won't be going to Detroit. We've lost to Toledo the last two years (last 6 in all) but we beat OU both times and that's why the Toledo losses never ended up costing us a trip to Detroit. And if we lose to OU and UT, our final two home games are going to look like EMU home games.

We used to be great at posting future schedule updates several years ago. Not so much anymore. Thanks for posting this though. I check that site from time to time but it wasn't updated with this last time I looked.

BG edged out OU? They crushed them, and clinched the division almost as early as mathematically possible.

My thoughts:

I like the schedule, four home games during the time of year where the weather should be halfway decent is a plus. Also, the Toledo game being back in October allows people from out of town to attend on a weekend instead of trying to deal with work schedules to attend a weeknight game.

The road slate is extremely difficult, having to travel to both Toledo and NIU is going to be a big challenge and may make or break the chances for winning the East.

Speaking of the East, I'm not too concerned about the divisional games as I think BG is still better than their counterparts. Getting Miami back on the schedule is a nice bonus and provides a winnable game at home, same for EMU. I do believe Akron will be the toughest East team BG will play this coming season.

Hey all,

I know North Dakota certainly isn't the biggest game on your schedule next year, but I'm really looking forward to watching an seeing how we match up. Last year, UND fans were pretty pumped to beat our first FBS team. Then Wyoming went on an absolute horrendous run, making the win a little less spectacular :)

UND is definitely a team on the rise, and was a huge surprise to not get into the FCS playoffs. Major snub for the team, considering some of the teams that got in ahead of them. This will be the coaching staff's 3rd season and they have completely turned the program around from where it was.

Key Players:
JR QB - Keaton Studsrud: Consistency will be the question here. Rough patches early in the season, but a very strong finish.
SO RB - John Santiago: FCS All American RB as a true freshman. Links below, show this guys speed. I'm hoping he can find some holes like we saw when BGSU played Georgia Southern (Hey, I was pullin for you guys). A ton of depth behind Santiago as well.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=06rFKmTVHrg" target="_blank (UND vs N. Colorado)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UWdDTjyuoUg" target="_blank (UND vs MT State)

JR S - Cole Reyes - Tremendous, Hard Hitting Safety. Could be the top safety in the Big Sky next season, if not the FCS.
Front 7 - Our run D is very stout, with a lot of depth. Definitely the strength of this defense.

Question Marks:
WR: UND did not have a great passing game last season. Improved towards the end, and could be better this year with some new additions, but still a lot to prove.
Secondary: Aside from Cole Reyes, our D-backs struggled last season (see our loss to MT, yikes). Though this group was extremely young and thin. Should be improved this year, but still a lot to prove.

I know BGSU has lost a few players but I expect to see a very solid team. Matt Johnson was tremendous, but it doesn't look like you guys are taking much of a step back with Knapke. I think the losses at WR will be the tougher losses. Even at RB, it looks like you guys have a really solid replacement ready to go.

Good luck against OSU to start the season, and we'll see ya on September 10th!

BG rolled Ohio. The point is had BG lost to OU, then OU would have won the East. OU went on a run after that game. BG finished first at 7-1 and OU was second at 5-3. Had the BG-OU game result be reversed, both teams would have been 6-2 with OU getting the tie break. The win at the time didn't seem as big but it was huge when it was all said and done. The year before BG went 5-3 for first and OU went 4-4 for second. Again, had OU won it would have won the East. Clawson made the comment several years ago that Ohio was team team to beat in the East. You know since then that Solich has been telling his team the same thing now about BG. All this talk about Akron each year being the team to beat has been a lot of hot air as they haven't beaten BG or OU.

Another typical MAC boring home schedule for a casual fan.

We do get 2 OOC home games when weather should be decent, but a 1AA school and a mediocre C-USA team aren't anything to get excited about.

Then 2 crap end of the season weekday games, one on the Friday after Thanksgiving, which doesn't bother me, but has traditionally had issues unless it was the UT game.

Eastern as homecoming is a good Homecoming opponent, but not a compelling matchup. The Miami game in October is really the only home game to get excited about as a fan, and they've been awful lately too.

It's the MAC though, so not sure what we can do anymore. The conference slate is always awful for fans, I wish we had a worthwhile home OOC game this year. Will always firmly state that I HATE playing 1AA schools, even if we do have a friendly ambassador from ND already here. Nothing against them, just don't think we should ever be playing those teams.

Not sure what could have been done to really make the home schedule fun if all of our key MAC matchups (OU, UT, NIU) are slated for road games. Especially when you know a couple of your conference games will be November weeknights....

If we are going to play a FCS schools, I do like the fact that we are scheduling North Dakota and South Dakota. These feel closer to peer schools than some of the other programs we've brought in over the years.

I'm also glad to see that Miami is back on the schedule.
